RE NYT BROOKS FALLOWS WHERE IS HISTORY BEING MADE RIGHT NOW
Brooks has come up with what he calls The Fallows Question.
This is another example of Brooks at his best.
My views on the usefullness of the media in general is available on this blog.
Even fairly bright, useful, pundits, like the Fallows, who by the way, themselves are rather rare in the pundit species, just don't quite get us very far, within the larger punditocracy, although they toil long and well at it, trying to find the alleged, isolated, spots on the globe where history is allegedly most being made at that time, and then reporting on it to a breathless readership wondering what history might be and how it happens.
With what is now going on, unfortunately for the Fallows, for Brooks, and for us, and even apparent, apparently, to their largely intelligent but intellectually dim American readership, is that they cannot clone themselves a hundred or even a thousand times, to cover all those spots where now, suddenly, for mysterious and ineluctable reasons, history seems to be being made all at once.
The notion of a limited number of such places was always a delusion of modern Western liberalism.
Let's just call it Brooks' The Fallows Fallacy.

RE JOSEPH NYE PUNDITOCRACY ALSO KEOHANE THE RIGHT WAY TO TRIM NYT EISENHOWER ASIA PANDER
Joseph Nye,..... Keohane,
Please!
At least Gilpin, at times, seemed to understand some things. He at least was willing to say 'political economy' in the same sentence.
Nye and Keohane, the 'other side', call it the dark side, of the globalization coin in America,
its neo liberal side.
Almost all Americans are either conservative free traders, or liberal free traders. There are almost no non free traders here.
'The right way to trim' would have been to have gotten him, and Keohane, out of academia a long time ago.
Say, have him carry Prestowitz' briefcase, while Prestowitz was giving away the store at Commerce, in trade negotiations with the Japanese, in the 70s. Something like that.
Can't really reeducate him now...
