Usually they are knowledgeable, or perhaps familiar is a better term, in one rather narrow, yet complex and quite splintered, field.
Philosophy and economics are great examples of such fields. Politics, history, ditto.
In order to stay abreast, they have to read mostly the technical or idiotic, voluminous, mierda churned out within their academic professions.
Pathetic, really.
