Just a note to continue prior posts re nature and convention, going back to the ancient Greeks, but with some unfortunate modern developments, call them modern fragmentations, perhaps.
When we get up to the 18th Century, the Reformation has already unfolded or unravelled for the past 150 or so years in seemingly endless wars and controversies.
The debates, even within Catholicism, in the 18th Century, mimick, to some extent, this new dissipated post Reformation state of affairs.
The confrontations between warring Catholic factions or sects, jesuits, Jansennists, and others, and the so called enlightenment philosophes, or infidels, adds another layer to the already tangled web.
