We should have left them, particularly those south of the Balkans, in their small numbers, illiterate, inhabiting scattered oases and small villages mostly, oppressing their women and children, and stray Christians and Jews, and slaughtering lambs for food which they ate with their right hands, and worshiping Allah in relative isolation, purity, and happiness in a vast Bedouin desert waste land, which is what the Middle East had become over thousands of years of human habitation and struggle, and bad geography, the Graveyard of Empires.
We should have simply taken their oil by force, and given them no money.
"Our dependence on Middle Eastern oil has poured hundreds of billions of dollars into a region which simply does not share our values, and which has become increasingly alienated from us both as a result of the impact of petrodollars and because of our polices during the last forty years."
