But they could do so based on a just war. They could also do so to the Caribs, who were cannibals................
They also did a whole lot of enslaving of native people because no one was there who would have tried to stop them.
Most people in fact thought it was a perfectly predictable and normal way to proceed; Europe, after all, was filled with serfs, indentured servants, and slaves.
The Spanish had just driven the Muslims from the Iberian peninsula by force after many decades, in fact centuries, of war.
