Americans still wear the blinders of the Democratic Revolution starting in 1760. They don't fully understand what the debate is really all about, frankly.
They can't defend that West as a civilizational principle because they forsook that principle, along the way, since 1760. It was a long process, but it was done by the West itself to itself.
Discussions here now are supposedly about nationalism, or about white black type racism, or about China as an economic nationalist adversary or not, or about various regimes in the Near East which somehow have to be financially aided politically, or bombed, or otherwise liberated and helped by eg tearing down monuments of Sadaam in 2003 in Iraq, or about Russia in various ways everywhere, etc.
