RE GORDON-REED MADISON HEMINGS THE PLIGHT OF THE FREED NEGRO

I believe every word of what Madison Hemings said in his Memoir.

Lincoln had violated his campaign promise to not only end slavery, but also to get rid of the negroes. They not only competed with white labor, but could not mix with whites, and were not equal to them in any sense.

He never even intended to try to keep that promise to his Northern Republican, white, electorate.

So you see these sad accounts, 50 or 75 years later, cited in Gordon-Reed's book on Jefferson and Hemings, the discussion of historians' biases, this way and that, re the sad plight of all the multitude of the freed negroes now long in the North...

Get over it. They had been supposed to have been transported back to Africa, or to wherever else.

The Northern white Republican supporters of Lincoln didn't really care where, just not there!
