RE PROPERTY RIGHTS

I have written notes about this topic in various contexts. Usually I am connecting far right small landowner property rights faux grass roots initiatives with big big property rights which underlie them, most notably big creditors rights lobbies, biggest banks, etc.

Here: OFF BLOG TOPIC CF TREANOR HART STOEBUCK

I was talking at one point about the early history of property rights in the context of eminent domain.

One could also talk, at great length, about how different theories of property rights played into the slavery issue in, say, the Fugitive Slave Acts, or Dred Scott, etc.

I have also tried to show connections between slavery and indentured servitude, a ubiquitous form of bondage, similar in many ways to slavery in practice if not in theory, which is seldom now even mentioned. It comes up in Dred Scott only by hints at certain places.

Forty percent of the white people who voluntarily emigrated or were involuntarily transported here, during the colonial and post colonial period were indentured servants. Bailyn, Elliott.  Think about it. You can think of Bailyn or Elliott as whatever kind of historians you want. I prefer to think of them as just really good ones.
