The real crisis of democracy has several variations:
One variation is that politicians seldom carry out what they promise voters they can or will do, regardless of whether it would work or not.
JFK is a classic example.
A second variation is that they quite often deceive voters into electing them, whether by a large margin, or by a minority of votes, and carry out policies differing radically from what they had promised voters they would do.
Lincoln is a classic example, who had campaigned as a moderate on slavery rather than as an abolitionist.
Trump's policies favoring the very rich over his campaign populist base, is another; yet Trump has tried to deliver on some of his populist promises.
A third type of politicians' campaign malfeasesance is that of running and winning on a platform which they know will not accomplish what they claim, such as trickle down economics, and then putting it into operation for powerful groups who had backed them rather than for those who had elected them.
Reagan is a classic example.
