This article shows so many things at once:
How far the Commerce Department stray from what it once might have been regarding industrial and trade policy.
How far the press and especially the NYT runs the agendas of all branches of the government, at all times, especially the Justice Department Liberace alludes to in this very article, reluctant to raise the question Ross wanted raised because of adverse press re Comey.
How far Homeland Security, or any other agency, can be pulled, helter skelter, away from its ostensible mission, under our system by the Presidency or the Press, or both.
Liberace doesn't mention what kind of case it wa,s where Justice's voting question reticence came out coincidentally. Was it a freedom of the press matter? That would be classic.
How far a truly globally microscopic issue, like white black latino race, citizenship, and voting rights matters and relations, can take and hold so called public attention and public opinion to the exclusion of much else much more important, even on those topics themselves.
