What once was a strictly European intramural religious schism among and between only white Europeans, later fanned out, as the age of discovery unfolded.
Western liberalism, itself a doubtful Western innovation, came to try to encompass within its universalist ambit all alien non Western civilizations, having not only other religions, besides the Christian ones in dispute during the European Reformation, but also religions and customs very hostile to the West in all kinds of ways.
On top of this development, these other civilizations had laargely been conquered by the white European West prior to and during the rise of Western universalist liberalism.
So the ideas of being conquered and yet also of being nevertheless liberally all loosely unified together in multicultural populations, with all others civilizations, these ideas were historically intermingled together too.
Universalist religions, unitarianism, and such, were products of liberal Western cultural ideology only.
