I agree wholeheartedly with that, except the last part. 

None of it had any real meaning ever, FULL STOP. 

The part about extending anything to everyone was part and parcel of the hypocrisy itself, obviously, from before the beginning.

Let's now call, for the first time, ever, anywhere, the ongoing historical journalistic and social scientific analysis David Kaiser describes above, re the American revolutionary Period, descending down into the Civil War Era on both sides, and then later, down into WWI Wilsonianism, and emerging still panting in FDR New Deal Left hypocrisy, let's just call it, for lack of a better term, whiggish though it is,

Trickle Down Western Hypocrisy, or simply,
Trickle Down Hypocrisy
