Reading In Denial, p 33, the strands of Professor Kaiser's abiding ideology, the pieces of the puzzle, all fall magically into place.
Professor Kaiser is still firmly planted in the Revisionist New Left, a reaction against the Traditionalist Left.
New Left Revisionist themes:
Blaming McCarthyism, not the Democrats or the Left, or even liberals, for almost everything that happened later.
Magnifying the Vietnam War as a causal factor in political decline, the rise of the neocon movement, and also blaming it for everything that happened later here, and additionally claiming it to be a consequence of McCarthyism, not of Democratic Party responsibility, etc.
Playing down the prior tendency of people like Arendt, and those others in the Traditionalist Left, to identify Nazism and Communism, especially Soviet Communism, as having been kindred totalitarian ideologies.
Sanitizing and minimizing the enormous impact of early 20th Century Soviet Communism, and Soviet influence and espionage against the United States, especially that within the FDR and Eleanor New Deal political and military machine, and denying and minimizing its extent and importance, including in the CPUSA.
Being an atheist, a given either way, tradiitionalist or revisionist; although they don't mention it (Which for me is neither here nor there, but an assumed indicium here.)

These are all indicia of what Haynes and Klehr, and I am sure many others as well, characterize as New Left Revisionism.
If the shoe fits, wear it.
