DAVID REICH NEXT QUESTION

No sub saharan ancestry in ancient (modern human) Near Easterners or (modern human) Egyptians prior to the medieval times. p 216.

No south to north migration during this period. (50,000 to 1,500 years ago? Or when to when?)

Let's just note this side theme here: Modern humans themselves, acccording to Reich's account, came out of Africa only 50,000 years ago, overwhelmed Neanderthals, and also intermixed with other older out of Africa hominids, yet no later sub Saharan ancestry in these later mixed modern humans.

Why not?

There were also still some modern humans, among non modern humans,  who never left Africa in the first place, one assumes.

These were still down there when mixed modern humans came back in two migrations north to south, as he tells it.

What happened and why?

Several explanations spring to mind. Here's one: ice age retreat, coupled with migration from the north and east pushing Mediterranean populations further south back into Africa.
