Second hand whistleblowing is now fine. Jost is undoubtedly fine with that.
Professor Kaiser teaches history, not journalism. He remarks in this column, somewhat gratuitously, on what he regards as the "frequent" misstatements that "the media" have made in covering the impeachment inquiry, "as usual." This comment is unfair to the good work that mainstream journalists other than Fox News have generally done in covering these events. It is also reckless to the extent that it gives aid and comfort to President Trump and his supporters in his strategy of promoting distrust of the media, even to the point of condoning violence against journalists, as part of his strategy of gaining and holding power.
