Nothing could be further from the truth.
If you take the small isolated case of Southern slavery, the South could have been just as well off, or better, with coolie indentured servitude than with negro slaves.
But by then, the South was in a negro slave labor rut.
Lincoln tried to import foreign whites, during the Civil War, his Immigration Act, to do the work of the freed and transported negroes. Whites would have worked, but less well in tropical conditions than negroes.
