There is a good argument that our radicalisms of left and right, of equality and anarchy, of anti clericalism, anti monarchism, and anti aristocraticism, our opposition to both church and state, paved the way not only for the Russian Revolution but also for the rise of Fascism in response.
It was certainly on the basis of that long revolutionary heritage that the US delivered the coup de grace to the Old European Order in 1945:
