This thing could very well be set in, say, an ' International
school ' in faux Singapore.
International Schools are real things, and exist all over the world, although few Americans are aware of their existence.
Let's say this international school has various Asian nationals studying there, because their parents work in faux Singapore.
That sort of sets a stage for possible intra Asian conflict, shall we say.
Say a Singaporean student (there are a few of these for various reasons) sees a Japanese, or other Asian, chewing gum in school, say on the playground.
Big deal in Singapore!
The big Singaporean chic attacks the japanese chic, punches her and tears her hair about the gum. That's just one of many possible scenes...It would be good if they are both big girls.
You could have a partial fragmentary West Side Story theme running through, and, say, a Desperately Seeking Susan suck up story, things like that.
