BBC RE CORIOLANUS IN MANDARIN
' The Orient can perform Shakespeare as well as the Royal Shakespeare Company. '
There's plenty of comedy in this play for them to capitalize on, no doubt.
Nice selection, by the Chinese, of a play, to do.

ONE OF MY BEST OLD ONE LINERS RE WHAT I CALL THE GLOBALIZATION TRAP
You can economics your way into it, but,
'YOU CAN'T ' ECONOMICS ' YOUR WAY OUT IT.'
(Behind all complex facades and machinations, macro economics really is a one trick pony.)
Widespread, really ubiquitous, political instability is going to be its hallmark.
Ultimately, folks, you will have to fight your way out.
Few countries would even have the luxury of trying to partially exit globalization.
That, of course, will not be how such a conflict or conflicts will be framed, for the average Joe.
It will not be a zero sum conflict.
It won't probably, immediately, have any clearly identifiable ' winners '.

re DK's current topic
Most Americans have believed in what I have characterized as
The Laissez Fairy. He is related to The Tooth Fairy.
An old post reference:

Terms search: Flore et Zephyr
Dusty will be holding up the laissez Fairy very soon.
As Obst points out, anything ' Dusty ', eg American westerns, falls flat as Thomas Friedman's analogy itself falls, in the international film market, for what seem to me obvious reasons.
We might call the Laissez Fairy ' Little Zephyr ',
or, shall we say
Zeffirelli , Zephyrelli

RE DK'S RECENT POST AND JON'S COMMENT
DK: "...We have a terrible worldwide problem with the collapse of legitimate authority, partly thanks to those kinds of organizations. But our own government has promoted it as well---...."
They are talking here, mostly, about so called rogue NGOs,
not the deeper, underlying, causes, the Liberal International Economic Order itself, with its MNCS, EU, WTO, NAFTA, WB, IMF, BRETTON WOODS, Sovereignty At Bay , Trading American Interests, etc., earlier on, starting mainly right after WWII, but also with important antecedents following WWI, 'making the world safe for democracy' etc., Wilsonian self determination....,
the LIEO which we, more than anyone else, more than anything, has facilitated a gathering crisis of authority everywhere. (We had always had our own percolating crisis of authority here, by the way; which forced so called liberalism on everyone, as a moral imperative, at times.)

RE MOVING CULTURALLY TOWARD A LEAST COMMON DENOMINATOR CULTURE IN MOTION PICTURES
See Obst's book, and the trend, in motion pictures, accelerating since the 90s, (she says only since 2001...), re LCD content, driven by globalization in the entertainment market.
Like so many others, in most all fields, she did not see globalization coming.....

RE BBC EGYPT DEMOCRACY CHINA MEDIA QUOTE
"The West is an irresponsible teacher, but Egyptian society should have its
own judgment and the political capacity to itself resolve the country's internal
sharp conflicts of interest. Unfortunately, it has none of this. It is naive and
rash like a child... Egyptians must calm down and think," comments the Global Times.
"The Arab Spring in Egypt has turned rapidly into an absurd farce and unprecedented tragedy, and this is indeed historical inevitability... China itself has had a similar experience, but its price was much higher. This was the Republic of China established in 1912," Song Luzheng writes in the Social Outlook commentary website.
"The painful lesson of Egypt is indeed a very valuable asset for China. It has made us aware once again of the price of going astray. If in the 1990s, Russia paid a high price in pointing out the direction for China's path, the Arab Spring in the Middle East has come at the right time for those more forgetful Chinese in the 21st Century," he concludes.

RE NATIONALISM VERSUS GLOBALISM
Most Americans, long whipped on by the elites in both parties and the elites of other countries with whom they have allied in developing the system they promulgated on everyone else,
are globalists, without really knowing what that means for them.
Guess what?
Almost everyone else is, at most, generally, a nationalist, or an ethnicist, a religious sectist, or a localist,
not, by any means, a globalist.

WESTERN MARKET CAPITALIST CULTURAL SOCIAL CONVERGENCE
I am going to begin to describe various institutions, phenomena, and events, which have accelerated in recent decades for various different reasons.
We have long seen at times, in civilization, tendencies to cross fields of endeavor, so to speak.
It has happened in the arts, in sciences and arts, in politics, for centuries, and millennia, really.
Ideas in one field are adopted, modified, imitated, for other media, another social context, other political or commercial or representational purposes, whatever.
What is new, it seems to me, is the accelerating tendency both to integrate new, and also to disintegrate older, in the process, social and personal experiences, histories, products, interrelationships, ideologies and even physical environments of life, really, based primarily and initially on market capitalistic initiatives.
It represents an unprecedented conjunction of private product commercial marketing and development, ubiquitous government deregulation, public and private social and commercial networking innovations, entertainment initiatives and innovations feeding on these tendencies and on the private media's technical and transnational transformations, and on the resulting willingness of all to promote and purvey anything which is saleable in the media and product marketplace, regardless of quality content or social conscience or consequences.
Now there are whole groups of people who identify with, say, The American Girl, or with the Twilight Series world. And with other converged marketing vehicles, amalgams of motion pictures, products, books, and games, household interiors and apparel, designer houses, even, etc.
In my generation, back 4 decades ago, one perhaps saw the beginnings of it, as Obst points out in passing, with the Star Trek series, and trekkies.

PROBLEMS OF AMERICANS AT HOME AND ABROAD GO WAY BACK TO STRUCTURAL ORIGINS
Continuing on with Ideological Origins Of The American Revolution.....
Of course these problems were transformed, over time, but many issues have a certain continuity, from the 17th Century to today.
In important ways, structural problems worsened, over time, while good fortune geopolitically has almost always prevented this from being seen.
One of the striking things to see is how radical religious Whig libertarianism,
beginning in the early 17th Century re The English Civil War, the anti popish anti Stuart ness of it, and then anti Church of England, anti Lutheran, anti Episcopalian, etc.,
that most animated the rebellious colonists,
has morphed over time, ideologically, into the anarchic civil libertarian conservatism of today.

IF YOU ASK THE AVERAGE PERSON
'Nothing unusual going on in international relations. Just the usual traditional US Russia saber rattling, Asian nation water wrangles, etc.'
I have said, however, that there is a low grade, really global, war, now long under way, for several years, but only now coming, very gradually, more into the open, in the liberal and conservative media.
After, all, it is the last thing the globalist liberal globalist conservative international media would want to admit has been happening, or will ever happen (The End Of History and The Last Man thesis).

THE PETER PRINCIPLE AND THE PRESIDENCY
All Presidents have been embroiled in Peter Principle like difficulties; these difficulties are really rather better seen as corollaries of that principle, insofar as the position, rather than the person, is, on the one hand, contradictory in its major requirements, and on the other hand, utopian in its conception.
THE PETER PRINCIPLE RE HIERARCHIOLOGY IN PULLOVIA
Doubtless, you may think, there must be some exceptions to this iron law of hierarchies.
"Apparent Exception No. 1: The Percussive Sublimation"
The percussive sublimation, unfortunately, is a "pseudo-promotion", in the land of Pullovia.
AMONG NEW GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURS, THERE IS CONSIDERABLE ROOM FOR PETER PRINCIPLE DIFFERENTIATION, BETWEEN TEN AND 100 DOLLARS A DAY PEOPLE.

NEWARK REALLY NEEDS A NEW POLITICAL AND IT WEAPON IN THE US ARMS RACE
Arms manufacturers are leaving some so called blue states. How about Silicon Valley? Wild Card.
They need, right now, in places like Newark, a weapon that is a kind of cross between a laptop, a hand held device, and an automatic weapon.
Why not design it in Silicon Valley, or Shanghai, and make it in, say, Newark, or Sumatra?
I am certain Booker would be on board, if the pot were sweetened enough.

RE US GOVERNMENT SUES BANK OF AMERICA MORTGAGE BACKED SECURITIES
This is a pious fraud of a case.
Wall Street needs to be unwound, in toto. Let the chips fall where they may.
With the big boys, MNCS, increasingly, going private, into a TOP MANAGEMENT DRIVEN, plutocratic, anti American, party of Davos, it is past time to simply disband these behemoths, state by state, where they were originally incorporated. That is the source of their legal existence.
However, because they are mainly now foreign entities, one can only unwind the vestigial domestic legal appendages.

I CONFESS I NEVER LIKED WOODY ALLEN or his films WAY BACK IN THE TWILIGHT OF GOOD CINEMA HERE
Having actually studied philosophy, it was especially off putting to have a horny, ugly, nurd like Allen trying to be funny, badly, about his notions of philosophy.
Not that comic actors, or philosophers, have to be good, or even ordinary, looking.
But Allen, being, and acting, horny, and not good looking, and a pseudo intellectual, was, in his films, neither very funny, very enlightening, or very entertaining, at least not to me. He didn't just act clumsy; he was clumsy, not funny.
His costars, sometimes fairly good but not really good actresses (presumably he did not want to be upstaged by anyone really talented), routinely for fell flat as pancakes, both as characters, and foils.

FROM GLASGOW STUDENT TO PRESIDENT OF IRAN BBC
My own view is that Western liberal democracies should not really even have offered Western higher education to non Westerners, ab initio.
There are no doubt conservative clerics in Iran who agree with me on this, re their new President getting educated in that citadel of infidels.
There are many who would debate the issue no doubt, but the march of history is bearing my view out I am afraid.
Admittedly, we gave them, perhaps, faux,
' credential society ', degrees, British in this case, for which they no doubt paid exorbitant fees, but hey, that is the corrupt, market capitalist higher educational system they wanted to teach them something....... send complaints to the University President, not the Iranian one.

Middle East, Asia, anywhere really. They have no idea really.
MY OWN VIEW RE WWIV
I call it WWIV because I consider the Seven Years War World War One.
It is admittedly arbitrary, because one really could consider Genghis' campaigns World War I, with much justification.
Then, the Seven Years War would be World War II, and of course what we call World War I would be World War III. That may, technically, be more accurate. Then we are talking WWV. You decide.
We do not have any leverage, and generally do not really even understand the nature of the conflict, now unfolding before our eyes.

Spain disputes UK sovereignty over Gibraltar, which has been a British colony since 1713.
Well then, why not go back to square one, wherever that is considered to be, with European powers' assertions?
My own view, not widely shared, is that the American colonial rebellion was ill considered, and should be unwound by dual referendum.

RE BERLUSCONI ITALY constitution
It just needs a good separation of powers.
Separating powers is a great way to never do anything much.

re prior post PS re 1917 1945
By the time of WW II, obviously, the only worthwhile alternative was the Patton one.
We did not choose that one.
That decision was the last nail in the coffin of the West, as I see it.
By then, however, a lot of water had flowed under the bridge, over there, since 1917.
You can all kid yourselves about it, ' but there it is ', as the British say.

RE FREDERICK THE GREAT AND US
Frederick apparently preferred that his subjects not even be aware that a major war was going on.
Ironically, I think a major quasi military conflict, now broadly involving military movements themselves, has been under way for several years now, under the radar of the average citizen. I call it WWIV.
Some questions might be:
Why doesn't the average citizen even know it?
Why doesn't the stock market reflect it?
Why doesn't the so called liberal media report it?

PS
The European powers, and the US, should, of course, have split up the Russian Empire, into at least three separate monarchies, at the time they also should have swept the Bolsheviks from power, in a restoration, in 1918 or so.
The smaller, Asian, Russian State would then be on the spot, there, to ' help ' Japan.

BBC THE ASIAN SQUEEZE IS REALLY ON NOW JAPAN NEEDS RUSSIAN MARINES AND DRONES
Re Japan needs marines and drones: where to get them?
(Why do they need them? That's not good ole market capitalism Cobdenist free trade talk!)
Right there in Russia of course.
Russia generously helped Snowden, why not Japan now, too?

RE BBC IMMIGRATION INTO GERMANY FROM SOUTHERN EU CONSERBERALS AND LIBERVATIVES
Maybe Germany can follow the UK, out of the EU.
This would be a really good issue to do it.
Back in the 80s 90s remember NAFTA, over here? Clinton, a free trade, and probably free immigration liberal, made the argument that if we agreed to boost trade with NAFTA, that would help stem the tide of illegal Mexican immigration.
Similar arguments no doubt are being made now re loans to the South EU: if we make the loans, maybe that will stem the tide of northward immigration......
I would have been with Kohl, back in the 80s, re the Turks, not for conservative reasons; rather for nationalistic ones. Kohl's hands were tied by his liberal international economic order too.
Conservatives love liberal trade, but hate liberal immigration.
Liberals love liberal trade and love liberal immigration.
Utopian socialists, and communists, if there are any left, are globalist laborites, arguing for example that only a globalist proletariat, not a nation state one, is ever justified, and that labor should not be exploited anywhere. Presumably workers should be able to move anywhere on the globe they most want to be, and where they are most wanted and needed by other workers. (Whereas trade unions tended to be nationalistic.)
Neither conservatives, liberals, nor socialists or communists, are really friends of a nation state concept regarding trade or immigration.
Call them perhaps conserberals, or libervatives.
