Spain disputes UK sovereignty over Gibraltar, which has been a British colony since 1713.
Well then, why not go back to square one, wherever that is considered to be, with European powers' assertions?
My own view, not widely shared, is that the American colonial rebellion was ill considered, and should be unwound by dual referendum.
