Let's call it, just for the sake of argument, that it's mostly, for many many millions of people, much closer to $10 a day.
That is the global so called middle class they are describing. They don't want to get into too many of those details.
This is what they mean by ' middle class '.
Try: faux middle class.
How does that make you feel? Good?
Call it pseudo middle.
A market state middle class is not some place you would want to live,
or guess what, even visit.
