LINCOLN'S WHOLE REPUBLICAN PARTY PLATFORM WAS BASED ON WHITE RACISM

I published it here in the past.
People don't realize that.
Tocqueville pointed it out, and I quoted that here. Many times.
They think only white Southerners were racists.

People now know no history because of the pernicious influence of Whig liberalism.

They also cannot think, even about what little bad history they may have rubbed up against.

RE DK REFERENCE TO SEAN TRAINOR ARTICLE WHIG REPUBLICAN PARTY INTERPRETATION

Sheet music (circa 1854) for an anti-immigrant Nativist song proclaims 'Citizen Know-Nothing' as 'Uncle Sam's Youngest Son.'

The new Republican Party did not defeat xenophobia at all.

http://time.com/4280458/republican-party-know-nothings/

Quite the contrary. It absorbed the Know Nothings, as Trainor ignorantly points out. He thinks that was a triumph of anti xenophobia....what an idiot.

No, Sean Trainor qualifies here as a Krugman Moron, a special category.

The new Republican Party had made anti slavery abolitionism, and most especially anti negroism into a newer and better xenophobia than the Know Nothings had had against mere white immigration, which was a whole lot less racially xenophobic than the new Republicanism of Lincoln.

The new Republican Party saw immigration as a great thing, Lincoln the most bullish and bully immigrationist in our history, but it was only for all white immigration, mainly to supplant the negroes, who theoretically were to be expelled one way or the other. See Lincoln's Immigration Law, passed I think in 1863, DURING THE CIVIL WAR!

The Republican Party was founded on NEGRO LABOR OBSOLESCENCE, not on freedom for negroes in America.

Under the Radical Republicans, it very quickly changed its stripes.

RE DK CURRENT POST

"...Last but not least, in the last half century we have lost our belief in the superiority of reason, rather than emotion.  The emotional and moral restraint of the American people struck foreign observers like Tocqueville in the 19th century, and they saw it as critical to our democracy. In the civil war, the passionate, emotional aristocrats of the South lost to the more rational merchants and teachers of the North..." DK, now

RE IMMIGRATION HISTORY DK POST

"...For the new party, the spread of slavery, rather than the growth of immigration, was the main threat to free laborers in the North...." DK

...................................................................

DK ON TOCQUEVILLE NORTHERN WHITE RACISM CAUSE OF CIVIL WAR:

' "...race prejudice seems stronger in those states that have abolished slavery than in those where it still exists, and nowhere is it more intolerant than in states where slavery was never known."(AT) Even in the northern states where black citizens theoretically enjoyed equal rights, he reported, they were too afraid to assert them. Those states that had abolished slavery had done so not to help the black man, but to help the white, both by leaving free labor without the competition of slaves and by eliminating the corrupting influence of owning slaves upon the whites.' DK, then, 2018.

I will just add a footnote here (, again,) to this prior post passage (excerpt) reprinted above.

Those Northern states that had abolished slavery had done so not only not to help the black man, and to help the white, and not only by leaving free white labor without slave competition, and not only by eliminating the corrupting influence of owning slaves upon whites, but, much more importantly, they did not want negroes around, free or slave, in the North or anywhere else in America.

That is really what Tocqueville had meant in 1830, in the passage DK quoted.

The Northern cause in the Civil War was supposed, according to the electorate, to result in the transportation, not the immediate, or the gradual, assimilation of negroes, slave or free.

They got screwed in every way. The only good, temporary, thing, for them, was that the Radical Republican Party kept the freed negroes in puppet control of only the South, not the North.

The second DK excerpt has the link to the ridiculous Sean Trainor article in Time, re immigration and zenophobia being eliminated by the new Republican Party! Enjoy.

NYT LEONHARDT RACE ECONOMICS INTERTWINED TRUMP LINCOLN

This article points out the salience of some of my remarks regarding how the Republican Party came up, based on both race and economics.

Liberace, being the Whig that he is, is not going to make this elementary connection for his readers.

He would follow the Whig thread of Civil War history, traced by the likes of Sean Trainor in Time Magazine, claiming that Lincoln Republicans stamped out xenophobia, quoted in one of DK's post, and criticized by me here several times.

The Party turned whites from fear of white immigration to fear of negro slave nationalization, having both racist and economic implications of the most obvious and elementary kind. This proved decisive in Lincoln' victory, if not in his later performance as President.

His masterstroke was to recognize the desperation of the white working class over the deteriorating industrial economy and to encourage their tendency to racialize that desperation. Neither economics nor identity politics can be said to be the more important factor. Perhaps one without the other — economics in a setting where no one racialized it, or racial prejudice at a time of economic prosperity — would not have brought about the same result. Together, they were tinder for the bonfire that resulted. And Trump was the match. (Cherlin)

And Lincoln was the match.

Trump beat both drums together just as Lincoln had.

Racial resentment will, and should, be huge, and intertwined, in connection with economic resentment associated with globalization going forward.

They are intimately intertwined for every civilization but the West.

Maybe this, my explanation, is also one that Leonhardt will find more sensible too, now that he has stumbled on it, as he has found the sociological underpinnings of it now in voter statistical behavior here. But beware: There are lies, damn lies, and then statistics.

At the time of Lincoln, free trade was negro slave plantation free trade.

Protectionism was racist white Northern protectionism.
