RE IMMIGRATION HISTORY DK POST

This is an explanatory footnote to this most popular of posts of mine.

The article by Sean Trainor, cited by DK in his article excerpted above, claims that the new Republican Party used cross cutting positions in the Know-Nothings to drag them into the Republican Party and out of their xenophobic prior state. 

Trainor fails to explain how the existing Know-Nothing planks actually cross cut eachother, and fails to show the connection between the Republican Platform as a solution to the problems with the defective Know-Nothing tenents.

My explanation in the my existing post illustrates that the Republican party's new platform, and not so obvious abolitionist agenda, were a successful attempt to replace several Know-Nothing xenophobias with the newer and stronger and better one of race prejudice against the negro, and fear and hatred of his white masters.

Very far from solving the Know-Nothing zenophobia platform flaws, and directly contrary to Trainor's argument, the Republican Party agenda took zenophobia to a higher level than the Know-Nothing Party it absorbed and supplanted.
