INDENTURED SERVITUDE VERY RARE HOLLYWOOD MOVIE THEME
Almost no Americans have any knowledge of this ubiquitous institution of colonial and post colonial white America.
Almost no movies ever treated it as a topic or subplot, yet it was everywhere, even into the period of the old West.
There were very large numbers of male indentured servants too, probably a much greater total number over several hundreds years than women, so the movie focuses on only part of the story of indentured servitude, and then mainly from an inaccurate sexist angle, as Hollywood was wont to do with all themes having a larger historical foundation. That was not normally the only basis for indentured servitude in America.
