My view is that the radical, and renegade, New England colonial rebellion press was, and had long been, the most powerful institution in the American colonies, more powerful than royal or company governors.
That tradition of broadsheet journalistic, anti monarchist, anti clerical, anarchist rhetoric and punditry, partially inherited from Britain and the Isles, continued to be paramount in American politics and government, not secondary, and not generational.
