Let me refer, for a moment, to some of the underpinnings of the perspective of big oil, in a larger context, including a larger liberal journalistic context both in CA, DC, and NYC.
Many different industries, in fact, all industries, were pulled into the post WWII boom of the West and the non Communist rest against the Communist bloc.
The liberal globalist boom relied on multiple industrial, really all, trade, political, strategic, and other dimensions.
Nuclear energy was in play, but proved not to be very useful when contrasted with conventional fuels.
The only way to boom, against Russia and China, into either submission or into liberalism, both views have been held, was to use the fossil fuels to fuel the consumer boom in the West, and production in the non Communist Rest.
American domestic industrial interests and producer came to have a very back seat place in this larger scheme for LIEO global unification. American consumers were the stooge beneficiaries of the trends in lower cost goods produced elsewhere to fuel anti Communism and so-called strategic objectives.
The politicians quickly jumped on this story as the only way really to keep the grand strategy alive.
Alternative energy is still largely a bad joke on environmentalist liberals, just like stooge recycling, in this country. Farcical.
All the best
