He and other writers are right about this: cotton slavery was very much a Northern thing too as a nationwide industry.
But, you can't be wooed by his facile false generalizations.

His best point is about the global market for slave related debt obligations, pointing out that the bulk of the credit, although it went through mostly New York and New England Banks, was derived from the London money market.
Interestingly, all authors appear to leave out, of whatever kind of accounts they are writing, the very important background facts:
1. Only about one tenth of enslaved negroes were sent to North America.
2. Nine tenths of slaves worked not in cotton at all but in sugar, an even more lucrative crop.
