I would just point out in passing that the the problems left unresolved in the first were not at all resolved by the second. On the contrary.
Their legacy was to be a society and a political system now also overlain by other related unresolved problems.
The Whig interpretations of both Civil Wars, and the aftermath of the second, will not do at all.
