GLAUCON X GREAT STUFF DK COMMENT

'“the only real solution to our demographic problem today is a path to citizenship, even if it has to be combined with new and more severe restrictions on additional immigration”

There is no "problem" in need of a solution if you’re in the business ownership class. For them, the immigration policy changes passed in 1965, which produced the 22 million strong pool of easily exploitable labor, have been a boon. The initial benefits went to border-area agricultural interests, but they are now spread throughout the economy. Democratic Party leaders such as Pelosi, Schumer, and the Clintons chose to keep policy exactly as it has been for the last fifty years because their donor class have reaped the benefits. Both parties have kept the policy the same for the same reason. "Good for capitalism," also explains why the corporate media would choose to ignore the issue or gloss over it. An open borders policy is just capitalism at its purest. “We shall do whatever benefits the business class and harms the working class.” Immigration policy is part of the long list of well-planned pro-capitalist policies that have resulted in runaway inequality.' I would just add that Clinton did take it further with WTO, AND ESPECIALLY NAFTA, a deal advertised to obviate the threat of increased latino migration, but actually did not do so at all, especially after the China trade, which we also vigorously promoted, then ate Mexico's domestic manufacturing lunch.

Rather than runaway inequality, which is their story, above, I would suggest using something like

Runaway Equality, or what I have called global income convergence.

The top .1%, while very bad, and characteristic, is not the 800 pound gorilla now in the room.

Global income convergence is.

Combined with labour obsolescence, it has long spelled doom for the West along the trajectory the West has chosen.

Krugman chooses to continue, for decades now, to talk, as Reich also has, about converting from manufacturing to services.

Services have been increasingly offshored as well to lower labour cost sites and persons, as the head of Java noted at Fairmont long ago.

Imagine confronting Odd Job, you don't know karate, and no high power wire to grasp....

He would make very short work of you.
