HOLLYWOOD ILLUSIONS

DK discusses the consensus among party elites, 1964 to 2016, and how it broke down, in the past. (How many kinds of elites are there, here?).

It is, also, Dionne's vital center consensus....

Where did it come from? DK says, from the New Deal period.

Actually, I think, it might have started before that, say in 1914 1919? I don't know. Anyway. Where did it come from, back then?

I tend to think of consensus here as having always been somehow ephemeral, evanescent even. Even during, and before, the New Deal.

Maybe even the New Deal consensus, itself, was a species of a dream, an illusion even, conjured, admittedly, by a united national media, back then. Madison Avenue, of course, was very very big too, back then, and Hitler made good use of its examples.

What about another possible source?

I have it!
