Looking back, the faults and foibles of these two are more similar than meets the casual eye, especially the American eye.
Russia was, for a long time, justifiably reluctant to enter into the fateful alliance with France, against Germany, that, in part, resulted in the WWI debacle, precisely because the political system in France was so anarchic and unstable year to year.
