Professor
Here's your question:
"I have avoided perhaps the biggest question of all--why does the United States have so much more violent crime than other advanced nations?" DK
The answer has to do with the inherent lawlessness of colonial places.
It has to do with racial mixing, which never really ever works.
It even has to do with the populations sent here or who came voluntarily, and their genetics, which often was not the best, whether they were white black or brown.
You yourself, in the past, accepted the story of degenerate and racist southern whites as an inferior group of immigrants from Europe. See my old post below, and a reference to one of yours.
That turned out not to be true as theorized.
Americans have anarchy and gun violence written into their constitution.
All the best

GRADY MCWHINEY THOMAS SOWELL'S AUTHORITY IN BLACK REDNECKS AND WHITE LIBERALS CH 1 WAS A KNOWN IDIOT
But a lot of liberals, not just ignorant conservatives, apparently hang on Sowell's pathetic account nonetheless, eg Professor Kaiser, who especially likes to follow Tocqueville....
The account they retail is that Southern whites are a lower order European white from those found in the colonial and postcolonial North.
They are actually considered by these white Stokely liberals to be racially and spiritually inferior to the Africa negro slaves, and free negroes, in their Southern white degenerate midst.
"...However, McWhiney's theories do not address large-scale Irish immigration to New York, Boston, and other northern cities. They also ignore the degree to which the Southern planter class resembled the English gentry in lineage, religion, and social structure. Furthermore his work avoids mentioning or acknowledging the fact that the largest group of pre-Revolution immigrants to the Southern colonies were English indentured servants who vastly outnumbered the "Celtic" settlers both in numbers and in cultural influence..." I follow Wikipedia blindly here, given the alternatives.
I suggest taking a look at Bailyn's great work on British isles migration, Voyagers To The West.
