J C D CLARK THOMAS PAINE INTRODUCTION REVOLUTIONARY FRANCE VERSUS REBELLIOUS AMERICA

"...revolutionary France freed its slaves in 1794; revolutionary America embodied slavery in its constitution of 1787." p. 11

Not that I am personally against slavery, but if France freed them without compensation to the owners, this was as blundering a thing as much later was Lincoln's. Lincoln and his gang and progeny had learned nothing from history by 1860.

Britain had had the good sense by 1830  to compensate its slave owners, not fight, defeat, kill them,  and occupy and steal their region with freed negro troops.
