Yet upon reaching Algeria's Tizi Ouzou province, Kabylie region, the artist was about to have his own life cut tragically short.
On 11 August, graphic footage began circulating purportedly showing Mr Ben Ismail being attacked. He was falsely suspected of having started fires, and locals tortured and burned him before taking his body to the village square.
The videos immediately caused national outrage.
The artist's brother later urged social media users to delete the footage of the attack. His mother, he said, still did not know how her son had died.

This panic and paranoia is alleged to have been stoked by accusations of arson.
The evening before Mr Ben Ismail's death, Prime Minister Aymen Benabderrahmane said the fires were the result of a "criminal act".
In a televised address, he added: "Preliminary investigations in Tizi Ouzou have proven that the starting points of these fires were carefully chosen to cause the largest possible losses."
On the same day, Interior Minister Kamel Beldjoud visited Tizi Ouzou, telling reporters the fires had been caused by "criminals filled with hatred against our country".
This week, Algeria announced it will review its relations with Morocco after accusing it of complicity in the deadly fires.
According to BBC Monitoring, neither officials nor the country's main media outlets have mentioned climate change as a cause of the fires, or as a reason for their vast spread.
This is despite the fact that temperatures of up to 46C (115F) were forecast for the week in which the fires raged.
Also about that time, a major UN scientific report warned of increasingly extreme heatwaves, droughts, and flooding globally.

THE MENU MUSTARD
... is correct about the liquids. The two factors to a mustard's heat are a) the type of mustard used and b) the liquids mixed with it. Yellow mustard seeds are the mildest with brown and black seeds having far more heat (your Coleman's is a blend of yellow and brown seeds so there is a good amount of heat there). There are enzymes in the seeds that are dormant until activated with a liquid. These enzymes release the pungent/spice compounds. Acidic liquids (vinegar) slow that release down. With water, cold quickly activates them while hot water deactivates the enzymes and breaks down the compounds. Added heat (cooking the mustard) further mellows the final product.
So if you want a mild mustard, use yellow mustard seeds, more vinegar than water, hot (boiling) water and gently cook it. If you want hot mustard, darker seeds, less vinegar and cold water.On a side note, regardless of the method, all mustard has a bitterness when the seeds are first cracked open. However, the bitterness diminishes quickly and by day three is usually gone completely.
Soaking the seeds a few days prior to blending in your choice of vinegar is a great way to go.

Cyclicality is apparently a feature of late great power political and historical thought going back to Greek times and the Romans.
My view, as you know, is that it is not that good a theory.
But never having read it, I did not fall under the spell of its siren song. I know it mainly from your accounts.
Whig interpretations, in Butterfield's sense, such as this, have tended, over centuries now really, to pile on each other, and build rickitier and rickitier structures, political economic historical, on each other, as it were, both obscuring, obfuscating, and failing ultimately to vindicate, what I will call something like the actual course of events and ideas in the past that have long lain and labored behind and below it.
This has been the insuperable burden of reviionist history in the late 19th Century as well as the 20th and 21st Centuries.

During the 2000s Arab and Islamic American racial identity was subjected to three sets of large scale racializing events: 1) the public and private reaction to the Al Qaeda attacks of September 11, 2001 (“9/11”); 2) the US invasion of Iraq during March 19, 2003 - May 1, 2003, the controversial war that followed, and its discussion in the 2004 elections; and, 3) the racially charged US presidential election of 2008, where an African American Christian with a Muslim father and an Islamic name was elected President of the United States, as well as the congressional election of 2010. The Al Qaeda attacks were the initial exogenous events, clearly demarcating a period whereby there was a structural increase in the intensity of US stigmatization of persons with Islamic religious affiliation and Arab ethnicity. The political events of 2003-2004 and 2008-2010 reinforced the stigmatization ushered in after 9/11. This stigmatization created an exogenous reduction in the expected payoff to acculturation relative to non-acculturation. To the extent that self-identifying as white reflects Arab and Islamic acculturation into American society, we should observe a discrete reduction in the fraction of Arab and Islamic Americans self-identifying as white during the years following 2001.
The post-9/11 events are a natural experiment that corresponds closely to an exogenous reduction in the public’s willingness to accept Arab and Islamic acculturation into US society. This paper tests whether these racializing events altered the distribution of racial identities among Arab and Islamic Americans. We use nearly two decades of cross-sectional microdata (1996-2012) from the March Supplement to the Current Population Survey. Hence, we are able to examine Arab and Islamic racial self-identification for a substantial period before and after the epochal events of September 11, 2001. Respondent and parental nativity variables allow easy identification of a large sample of 1st and 2nd generation Americans. Although we cannot completely identify 3rd and higher generation Arab and Islamic Americans, language usage, religion, or skin shade, we do find that our results are robust with respect to ancestral origin. Separating the sample according to the timing of racializing events and comparing 2002-2012 to 1996-2001, there is a statistically significant decrease in the unconditional and conditional probability that Arab and Islamic Americans will self-identify as white.
