Re Francis v Benedict: This is rather like an Avignon situation! Does the Vatican have a Tower where they can put Benedict? His Vatican retirement chambers are obviously too free a venue for him. I cannot recommend sending retired Pope Benedict to internment in Africa, which is my usual solution for a troubled soul.
On the other hand, Francis favoring Brazil priests (and perhaps also his native, and neighboring, Argentinian ones to boot) may smack of pork barrel favoritism, especially regarding an issue so explosive, and universal, as celibacy.
