Many people here, and in the West, most of them of a utopian socialist or egalitarian religious perspective or both, had been led to believe that technology would in the not too distant future also be able, in various emerging ways, to do away with what is called inequality.
Normally, this would mean that everyone would have material means equal to all others' material means.
Not that wide or widening inequality is good, but nothing like this La La Land Dream could ever have come about, even with enormously much greater effort and cooperation in that direction.
Particularly for average folks in the West, equalization would mean an enormous lowering of prosperity to reach a global wealth equalization point, what I call on this blog convergence, or wealth convergence, or income convergence.
Sadly, almost no one here even understands this, or they would not be for it under any circumstances.
Global median income is probably about $600 a year, although different factions have very different estimates!
As the NYT has noted recently, most Indians defecate in the open, and they will for the foreseeable future. Think about it.
