RE CLIMATE CHANGE 1.5 TO 3 C KNOCK YOURSELF OUT THE AGE OF THE DEMOCRATIC REVOLUTION

Climate change: COP24 fails to adopt key scientific report

In order to reverse climate change, you would have to reverse globalization.

The bitches in Asian cities can't even breathe they are so market capitalist ramped up for our LIEO slut consumer market for their shitty polluting goods.

I'm going to be driving a Tesla S soon. Whole lotta work and pollution went into making that feel good luxury electric car for Western liberal pussy environmentalists.

Just begin to try now to begin to reverse, originallyWestern led, globalization..........

FRENCH STUDENTS HUMILIATED RE EDUCATION REFORM PROTESTS

France can do backflips about education reform until it is the color purple.

These students, because they are the West youth, have a poor prognosis for prosperity going forward.

Why?  Convergolescence.

They can twist and turn, take money from the super wealthy they can tap, French expats, tax renegades, whatever.

It won't help much, really.

Convergolescence is not about taking back wealth from the superwealthy at all.

Limiting French education to favor a minority won't make much difference at all either.

It won't help the minority much; and it won't hurt the disadvantaged educational majority much more than already under way, anyway, either.

French protests, even French Revolution, won't, can't, take France out of the chute of convergolescence.

The Age of the Democratic Revolution.

Once France lost its colonies, it gradually became just another beached economic whale on the Western coast of Eurasia.

Imagine if France had kept Louisiana, and or Canada?

Imagine if Britain had kept the colonies, India; kept the Middle East as joint protectorates?

Whole different story, now....unimaginably different.

The period of the Seven Years War, or The French and Indian War, really was the turning point.

At this point, things began to turn south for the West.

THE NECESSITY OF NATIONALISM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eovIYNFopgw

It is not quite Brooks' nationalism....

I am not in Friedman's camp.

When Friedman explains that nationalism is not inherently a so called conservative (whatever that now means) thing, but rather a liberal thing, this is a very correct important point. A classic example is Weimar Germany.

Wilsonian self determination was a classic statement of the concept.

You might think of it as a laissez faire of similar race, culture, and ethnicity combining across or within old imperial boundaries.

I am less a nationalist than an imperialist, but strictly Western Imperialism. This imperialism was the traditional order against which the Democratic Revolution unfolded from say 1760.

It rebelled against imperialism both in favor of nationalism, and also, contradictorily, universalism, as well incongruously as individualism, simultaneously.

That is why the history has been so misunderstood.

RE WHO WAS MORE DERANGED PATTON OR EISENHOWER

It has come out, over the years that the OSS, at the highest level, collaborated with Russia to remove and then to kill Patton.

The Americans themselves seem to have carried out this murder, although the details are shrouded in almost as much confusion as the JFK assassination.

The explanation given to Bazata by Donovan was that he was dangerous and deranged.

Drew Pearson was the slut patsy chosen by the OSS to convey this false story, couched appealingly in the Jewish private slapping story, (who was ill but nobody knew that or cared) to the eager libertarian American public.

One obvious question: Who was more dangerous and deranged? Patton or Eisenhower?

Patton had begged Eisenhower to take Berlin, and other Eastern European capitols. So, it seems, had Montgomery to his superiors.

Eisenhower saw no use in taking Berlin, or any other place over there.

So, was Montgomery deranged too?

What has any of that, really, frankly, to do with slapping an ill Jewish, yellow belly, Army, Drew Pearson bait, buck private?

Let's change tack, for a moment. Call it a pivot!

Why would you collaborate with the Soviets re Europe, killing Patton, giving Eastern Europe  to them, when they had just, just rammed Japan all the way up your ass in the Pacific, resulting in a terrible life and death struggle in Asia?

What rational person would do that?

Let's change tack: whom do you, only now, believe less:

The NYT in 1964 re Kitty Genovese?

or

Drew Pearson in say 1944, re Patton?

Pearson was no more, and no less, self centered and unscrupulous, in 1944, and it would be really hard to ever be more self centered or unscrupulous than he,  than the NYT had been in 1937, or 1964, or 2016.

Jefferson, also, re self centered and unscrupulous, had talked a good talk, Declaration of Independence, etc.

But he had kept his own slaves to the end, baby!

SEETHING MASSES IN THE REST BLAME THE WHITE WEST FOR THEIR POVERTY

Technically, this is a fallacy, call it The Western Imperialist
Fallacy, but ask yourself whether any of them, people of any color, even white, would believe it, even if they could understand it......See eg, Paul Bairoch

"...(because our security problems do not arise from a competition among the great powers, but rather out of the seething underclass, domestically and in the Third World, that has been seduced by the cult of consumption at a time when the future dictated by its demographics moves this class ever farther from realizing its fantasies)..." The Shield of Achilles, p. 258.

Maybe, if the White West had not some dominated the Rest, the overwhelming majority of them might now have three bowls of rice a day, instead of two, and now live in a somewhat larger thatched roof dirt floor hut.

Convergolescence is closing in on billions.

Re Bobbitt's passage, I would just note in passing that it is not merely demographics, or even that and the cult of consumption together, that is moving this so called class farther from reaching its fantasies. It is also other processes, some working for centuries now, others only very recently, as well.

MY COMMENT ON DK RECENT POST RE HENRY ADAMS

Professor
Interesting essay.

My views of the roles of science and of history are a little different.

Re: Adams' speculation re history concluding that human society is heading in the direction of socialism.(One of three alternatives)

Why not plug in globalization, and ask Adams' question that way, since everyone has been talking about universities and issues of race discrimination ethnicity civilization and competitiveness?

'Specifically, Adams said, history might eventually conclude that human society was heading towards globalization (not socialism)--and thus declare war on existing institutions. "Would property, on which the universities depend, allow such freedom of instruction?" he asked. "Would the state suffer its foundation to be destroyed? Would society as now constituted tolerate the open assertion of a necessity which should affirm its approaching overthrow?"

It seems to me that one can make a very good case that that is what globalization has been doing, much more effectively than Adams' conception of mere socialism ever could, even though the utopian ideal of socialism is also a global rather than a national one.

TRUMP'S CONGRESS CARTOON #DTS

We show an enormous Trump, a primitive man, in cave man bearskin attire, in a shallow tropical swamp, surrounded and in mortal combat with a horde of knee high, red attired, pygmy savages, complete with red war paint.

He has grabbed several aloft in each hand, is kicking others aside by the handfuls. They are flying through the air at left and right.

THE MENU BLACK WALNUT BUCKWHEAT IMPROV

This is the idea. You can turn it all different ways from here.

Most people find that black walnuts aren't easy to incorporate into things and avoid their bitterness, strong flavor, and hardness when left in pieces, and their dryness when ground.

Here is an idea. Use melted black walnut ice cream as an ingredient analogous to milk. You can even strain the black walnut pieces out, but they can also be left in, for a crunch.

This would work especially well for say black walnut pancakes or crepes, by simply using say melted Blue Bell ice cream. Blend the melted ice cream with milk or yogurt. For milder pancakes, and less sweet, cut the ratio of melted ice cream with milk or yogurt, or some other liquid ingredient you favor, for pancake batter. Do not add sugar.

For gluten free, buckwheat flour works great.

RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT VANDALIZING KANT'S IMAGES NOT A BIG SURPRISE TO ME

Paint-splattered statue of Kant in Kaliningrad, 27 Nov 18

Kailinigrad was certainly better off as Konigsberg...., like the rest of Eastern Europe would have been if we had not betrayed it.

Another little thing that we could have prevented.

Not going to happen, baby.

US SENATORS DEMAND

The Saudi Prince is not an American. Neither was Khashoggi.
He was executed, apparently as a traitor or blasphemer or both, in their Embassy, in a third country.

Get over it.

Americans all blame Russians for interfering in our internal affairs.....

In my view the US position is just another of the innumerable instances of the US committing to political positions that are both untenable politically and strategically, but also are frankly foolish, and are diplomatic embarrassments.

If the Prince ever grabbed one of these vocal senators and had them Khashoggied, that would be a proper diplomatic incident.

The Venona books mention some American citizens who were Soviet spies. They sometimes kept their jobs as journalists, or went into journalism, after their cover had been blown. One notable one worked directly for Walter Lippmann. They should have been quietly Khashoggied, not just terminated from their treacherous positions. Take a look at the Venona books, and make your own list. Often, what saved them was traitors in theirs and other government bureaucracies, especially State, Treasury, and the OSS itself.

NYT LIBERACE ACCUSES REPUBLICANS OF DISRESPECT FOR DEMOCRACY

Why not advert, at this ideal moment, to Radical Republican Reconstruction?

That, for me, is the classic, the quintessential, disrespect for democracy moment.  It went on for years.

As even DK noted, they even queered their own northern white racist voter base by legislative deceit.

"...The Republicans also favored this solution because they were frightened to simply degree Negro suffrage (as it was then called) in the Constitution, fearing that many northern states, sadly, would reject it...." DK

The only part of this passage I disagree with is the 'sadly'. If DK thinks it was sad for the Radical Republicans to betray their electorate, that is his view. If he thinks that it was sad that Northern whites would not favor negro enfranchisement, he has misunderstood or misinterpreted Whiggishly where northern whites have always stood. That is hardly sad either. It is the facts of the American past, and European history. He cited Tocqueville for the same thing.

In my view the Radical Republicans were traitors to democracy in many ways.

RE ED BOYLE FERYL DK SITE COMMENTS

"Nobody seems to talk of the problem of global overpopulation." EB

Overpopulation has become huge.

I have talked mostly about human labour obsolescence, and  global income convergence, different but related topics, all processes of increased globalization.

These are not the topics that liberals like DK want to talk about.

In fact, these topics, (along with several other biggies I can name, just for good measure,) themselves queer the whole global liberalism ideology.

They want to talk about wealth divergence, between the middle class, mostly in the white West really, and the .1% super wealthy, a small but global elite group increasingly mostly of color.

So they really want to talk apples and oranges, from the get go, re domestic economy versus global economy comparisons.

That diverts attention from the liberal responsibility for these processes mentioned above.

Don't forget, capitalism is a very very very liberal thing.

LIEO GLOBALIZATION CAUSED CLIMATE CHANGE CROSSROADS CRISIS

If the West had not adopted a course of helter skelter globalization, booming the noncommunist world after WWII, the climate change problem would not have even happened.

Now, the liberal establishment, and the liberal media, especially the NYT, all act like it is not their fault, and that it was all caused by someone else mostly.

Climate concerns did not figure at all in strategic carrot and stick trade, investment, subsidy, technology transfer, and market opening and market sharing initiatives.

GLAUCON X GREAT STUFF DK COMMENT

'“the only real solution to our demographic problem today is a path to citizenship, even if it has to be combined with new and more severe restrictions on additional immigration”

There is no "problem" in need of a solution if you’re in the business ownership class. For them, the immigration policy changes passed in 1965, which produced the 22 million strong pool of easily exploitable labor, have been a boon. The initial benefits went to border-area agricultural interests, but they are now spread throughout the economy. Democratic Party leaders such as Pelosi, Schumer, and the Clintons chose to keep policy exactly as it has been for the last fifty years because their donor class have reaped the benefits. Both parties have kept the policy the same for the same reason. "Good for capitalism," also explains why the corporate media would choose to ignore the issue or gloss over it. An open borders policy is just capitalism at its purest. “We shall do whatever benefits the business class and harms the working class.” Immigration policy is part of the long list of well-planned pro-capitalist policies that have resulted in runaway inequality.' GX

I would just add that Clinton did take it further with WTO, AND ESPECIALLY NAFTA, a deal advertised to obviate the threat of increased latino migration, but actually did not do so at all, especially after the China trade, which we also vigorously promoted, then ate Mexico's domestic manufacturing lunch.

Rather than runaway inequality, which is their story, above, I would suggest using something like

Runaway Equality, or what I have called global income convergence.

The top .1%, while very bad, and characteristic, is not the 800 pound gorilla now in the room.

Global income convergence is.

Combined with labour obsolescence, it has long spelled doom for the West along the trajectory the West has chosen.

Krugman chooses to continue, for decades now, to talk, as Reich also has, about converting from manufacturing to services.

Services have been increasingly offshored as well to lower labour cost sites and persons, as the head of Java noted at Fairmont long ago.

Imagine confronting Odd Job, you don't know karate, and no high power wire to grasp....

He would make very short work of you.

RE DK CURRENT POST ARTICLE I WHAT DOES NUMBERS REALLY MEAN?

Section. 2.
The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States, and the Electors in each State shall have the Qualifications requisite for Electors of the most numerous Branch of the State Legislature.
No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the age of twenty five Years, and been seven Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State in which he shall be chosen.
Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons. The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct. The Number of Representatives shall not exceed one for every thirty Thousand, but each State shall have at Least one Representative; and until such enumeration shall be made, the State of New Hampshire shall be entitled to chuse three, Massachusetts eight, Rhode-Island and Providence Plantations one, Connecticut five, New-York six, New Jersey four, Pennsylvania eight, Delaware one, Maryland six, Virginia ten, North Carolina five, South Carolina five, and Georgia three.
When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.
The House of Representatives shall chuse their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.

Indentured servants was a large number. These white folks were in a ' servitude for years ', similar to slavery.

Indians, who were excluded because not taxed, were considered higher on the scale of humanity than negroes, who were unfree persons.

I think it is clear that neither negroes nor indians were considered  members of ' the people ' as that term was used.

What is missing from this section is any definition of what constituted voting rights. Those were left to each state. Each state might very well have restricted the vote to only those with a certain wealth. They could have restricted it to only those who were not indentured servants. There were many restrictions. Certainly negroes were not considered to have any vote, regardless of what article 2 says about 3/5.

The purpose of the distinction, a white racist distinction, was to racially restrict federal representation of slave states versus white states. It limited the federal representation of southern whites, not enfranchising southern negro slaves as being 3/5ths of a person at all. The negroes had no political voice, both before and after the Constitution.

After the Civil War, this policy was reversed for party tactical reasons by the Radical Republicans by enfranchising male negroes, 50 years before white women got the vote!

https://blackpast.org/aah/three-fifths-clause-united-states-constitution-1787

"...Ironically, by pushing for the fullest possible count of inhabitants both legal and illegal, while failing to push for a path to citizenship, the Democrats are echoing, weirdly, the position of the antebellum white southerners.  While they want these people counted to get full benefits and representation for their states, they don't particularly care if they get to vote." recent DK post excerpt

Bingo.

It never would have begun to occurred to white Southerners or white Northerners, before the Civil War, to have granted, under any foreseeable circumstances, voting rights to negroes.

Let's talk weird. The Democrats would have to get migrants and illegals the vote by force.

The Radical Republicans not only gave the freed negroes the vote, but also placed them in power in the South. That was not what Northern whites had elected them to do.

It just depends on your party.

"...The Republicans also favored this solution because they were frightened to simply degree Negro suffrage (as it was then called) in the Constitution, fearing that many northern states, sadly, would reject it...." DK

RE WHAT AMERICAN WORKERS ARE TRYING TO SAY

Wednesday, August 8, 2018

DAY AND SUNKARA NYT HAS BEEN HIDING THE BALL ON UNIONS SINCE BEFORE 1950

They don't say that, but just read between the lines of their editorial.

How did a sustained political assault on unions happen since mid 20th Century?

Answer: Long term and entrenched collusion of liberal organs like NYT against domestic unions and for globalist labor initiatives in the form of free trade etc.

This is a work in progress, so maybe will update this post, going line by line.

How bout that!

They paint a rosy picture of what unions once did for all workers. They oppose a right to work law which forces weak pathetic government unions (the fragment that remains) to represent all workers against management and against government (lotta problems for government workers to even be in unions in the first place).

Day and Sunkara say this ruling kills unions by attrition. A lot of other factors have played into the pathetic history of unions in America than just those they refer to. Too long a sad list to go over here. Trust me.

Not least of the problems with this account was the tendency of early relatively weak union legislation here to protect only union members. Other social legislation protected other workers, but that was not necessarily the work of unions, in any event.

Making unions responsible for all workers' or rather just some other workers' rights to work delegates a government job to weak and vestigial unions.

But that is what Day and Sunkara claim was a benefit of robust unions long ago...... It doesn't get any more pathetic than that.

The Whig interpretation of union history in America.

The best reason to join unions, long ago and far away, would have been to fight foreign unions themselves, foreign governments favoring their workers over ours, foreign corporations doing the same things, offshoring production, foreign direct inveatment and favoritist finance of foreign projects, export subsidies over domestic consumption, things like that, long ago.

But, hey, that should have been the job of the American government all along, baby, not of fucking unions.

Unions here, in the face of liberal NYT globalization, are dead as a fucking mackerel anyway.

The main reason unions are totally dead now is that the industries that once supported our old schlerotic unions here are now also dead as a mackerel.

Why are unions dead here, whereas in other countries they seem to limp along, and some countries protect their workers aggressively by trade and investment constraints?

Same question again, baby, about so many goddamned topics the NYT claims to help you on:

DO THE OTHER COUNTRIES JUST HAVE BETTER JOURNALISTS?

Maybe Dylan Matthews, or someone else at, say, Vox, or some smart socialists at Jacobin, can set me straight, or straighter!
