WHY NOT A LITTLE BLURB FOR MY TURKISH FRIENDS

France had a history of going outside its civilization to gain advantage intra civilizationally.

The Fateful Alliance, Kennan, France , with Russia in the Orthodox world, is only a later example leading up to WWI.

How about France's alliance, with the Muslim Turkish Sultan, against the Hapsburgs, in the 16 Th Century?

As a result, the Muslims were threatening Vienna, by physical siege, until circa 1750 etc., and heavily infesting the Balkan peninsula until today.

Turkey has pulled ahead

RE PRIOR POST BELOW FIGHTING FOR THE DARK AGES

Sir Michael Howard, The Lessons Of History, "1945--End Of An Era?", pb, p 134 :

"Only one thing could have prolonged the existence of the European Empires--the continuing approval and support of the United States.  It was the denial of that support that spelled the end of the old European Empires.  The citizens of the United states had not joined the Second World War to prop up a system of imperial domination against which they had been the first to revolt. And it has been with genuine bewilderment that they find themselves today so generally reviled as its inheritors." My underlining.

I would just add, the US' entry into WWI, had been, even more so, based on  the above rationale. See: Russia Leaves The War, Kennan, "Wilson and the War Aims".

Reading Beschloss, The Conquerors, and also Kennan somewhere (Memoirs?), it seems that Roosevelt actually believed, until the end, that Nazism was, and had been from the beginning, an aristocratic imperialist movement, similar to that of Wilhelmine Germany before and during WWI which Roosevelt so detested, yet had holidayed there many times.

CALL IT ANOTHER MOVE TOWARD MULTI CORPORATE ONLY MARKET STATES

They have already had their de facto organizations, for a long time now, since at least 1917, actually before that in some cases.

These organizations are not going to be multi national, they are multi corporate.

They will exclude nation states, where feasible, as both obsolete and obstructionist.

MNC Corporations in the US, and multi national, originally primarily Jewish, financial interests, were the real harbingers of this development.

Niall Ferguson, The Rothschilds.  I don't usually recommend him; rather like recommending Simon Schama, but from the other side of the political perspective.

They have been relatively unencumbered by, and have usually controlled, nation state regulation, since the beginning.

I WILL TRY TO EXPLAIN SOMETHING HARD TO DEMONSTRATE OBJECTIVELY THE CLASH OF CIVILIZATIONS

Because the US started out, and has largely remained, a betrayer of its mother country and that country's Western Civilization, including Wilson's rationale for even entering WWI, and moreover in Roosevelt's attitude to WWII (pro Soviet during) and Truman's Cold War (anti Soviet but also anti Western globalist) after,

other, quite adversarial, developmentally emerging countries in other civilizations, quite naturally treat it with additional deep skepticism and suspicion, while cleverly aping our flawed human rights vernacular (eg China, yesterday).

The US' changeable chameleon political system, much like that of France in the age of imperialism and after, and its ambassadorial appointment tradition, complained of in all European great power chanceries according to Kennan ("they don't know what an ambassador is for"), does not inspire confidence anywhere in the West or elsewhere either.

The United States wants each civilization's core state's underclass to rise up against its oppressors (rather as the Soviets' program did in 1917), and to begin to control its politics by American style democratic processes.

The United States is, thus, both a nation state, and a multi civilizational, spoiler, an ideological adversary both of less so called democratic core states in its civilization and others, and of traditional civilizations themselves more generally, going forward. How else could it make the world safe for its unique concept of truly global weak anarchic democracy?

That, I take it, is only one, but a key implication of Huntington's The Clash of Civilizations, when combined with other works on American and European history.

It shows the US favoring multinational, multi and cross civilizational, electoral and appointive bodies, like the EU, and the WTO,  all controlled ultimately by the so called Party of Davos rather than by elected or appointed officials within, and for, their respective nation states.

Although the US has not liked empires, it has not liked nation states either. It does not like civilizations as such, even its own. It does not like regional multi national trading blocs, really, except as stepping stones to bigger ones. It doesn't like the EU, really.

What's left?

It really loves the brotherhood of man, but not just any kind of man.  It really has to be liberal market capitalist American style democratic man.

nyt mortgage backed securities settlements Drew Pearson Fallacy

The nyt continues to pound the no criminal liability issue.

See the account in The Big Short.

Maybe I have misunderstood some realities, not accounted for in accounts of the dumbness of Wall Street banks here.

If so, then Michael Lewis missed them too, and he actually did research, and does not seem to me to be either a dumb or gullible guy.

Being dumb is not a crime.

Refusing to take merely good, but not binding, legal advice is not a crime.

There are of course ways to impose criminal liability in such a situation. It requires regulations with criminal penalties for violations.

What are the chances of such legislation being written, passed, or signed into law, in the influence based party system, and its perennial drift, as it presently stands?

The nyt won't get into that. That's part of The Drew Pearson Fallacy.

PAUL PERRY FOREIGN POLICY FEUD

'Although the 2016 presidential election is still a long way off, the back-and-forth over foreign policy between Mr Paul's libertarian wing of the Republican Party and Mr Perry's internationalists reveals an ideological fault line that likely will be on full display in the days ahead.'

Perry is trying to paint Paul as an isolationist, it seems.

While conservatives have often been ' isolationist ', in the context of the alliances and conflicts of the 19th and early to mid 20 century, it meant something to Americans more like pacifism, and nationalism; it did not so much have an economic aspect, although it opposed certain ostensibly lucrative sectional proposals.

Isolationism was opposed to military adventurism (Cuba was a good example), colonial expansionism (Phillipines), interventionism, and subjugation to entangling military alliances, back then.

Wilsonian activist internationalism, call it globalist democratism with a military component, was what that earlier nationalist pacifist 'isolationism' reacted against, especially re WWI.

Wilson himself did not apparently have much economic internationalism, but he and his agenda were, however, nevertheless backed by the biggest banks, and dovetailed with their globalist financial and commercial interests.

Both libertarians and internationalists, in both parties, have internationalized, economicized, financialized, and institutionalized in private, NGO, and GO organs,  their agendas, since WWI.

Human rights hawks on the left, ' left libertarians ' if you will, such as Power, are a legacy of Wilsonian internationalist activism, and going further back, Republican abolitionists; and they are matched, since at least Reagan's time, by globalist libertarians on the right, a species of modern day 'autocrat abolitionism ' similar to Wilson's, and before him, Lincoln's.

Wilson's war aims included toppling autocrats to make the world safe for democracy, which if you flesh out its meaning, back then, really meant not just toppling the German emperor, but other allied combatant imperialist powers' crowned heads as well.

It was similar in some ways to the globalist, nominally democratic globalist populist, position of the Bolsheviki, whose revolution helped justify US intervention in the conflict.

Wilson's war aims and his ideals were totally in conflict with those of the Entente, and even of the West at that time.

The United States continued to grind on, quite oblivious even in the 20th Century, to the ideological Western civilizational betrayal it had first fomented back in 1776, and quite bewildered by the accusations, from other civilizations, of it role after WWII as the inheritor of a Western imperialist legacy it had long claimed to have repudiated, but had nevertheless taken advantage of, but, ironically, both against its own interests and those of the West,  when the opportunity arose to economically globalize during the Cold War by booming other civilizations to the ultimate disadvantage of the West.

RE THE TEA PARTY TAXATION INDIANS TAX COLLECTORS RELIGION JESUS

Re Tea Party and Race, and comments, DK site:
He had a nice squibb here:

"...The story of which this is a part goes back to the 1930s and the New Deal.  No region was hit harder by the Depression than the South, and Roosevelt probably saved thousands from starvation.    His relief and agricultural programs, as well as the construction of infrastructure including the Tennessee Valley Authority, benefited millions.  White Southern politicians tried to keep the benefits out of the hands of blacks, but they cold not entirely do so.  Until 1937, FDR's economic help trumped his wife's open sympathy for the civil rights movement. But the 1936 elections threatened the South with a terrifying prospect.  For the first time in about a century, as a I learned writing my last book, the Democratic Party won majorities in Congress that did not depend on southerners.  The Negro vote (as it was then called) already played an important role in northern states, and the southerners feared that FDR's activism might draw on these majorities to overturn their social order.  In 1937 they immediately joined the decimated Republicans to block FDR's court packing plan, and that signaled the end of Roosevelt's legislative juggernaut.  A coalition of southern Democrats and conservative Republicans was strong enough to block effective civil rights legislation for a quarter of a century....." DK

Re such nonsense as 'no taxation without representation' arguments justifying the Boston Tea Party and Rebellion, etc., etc., the fact is that the colonists were among the most lightly taxed people, relatively speaking, in human history.

Furthermore, the practical difficulties of collecting either taxes or duties from the colonists was well documented, even back then. The British mostly ignored the problem, although the rhetoric was bitter.

Professor Allison, Teaching Company, "Before 1776", has some enjoyable lectures on these topics. See especially his illustration on the Crown agent's difficulties collecting duty on a sugar shipment.

WHY NOT ALSO THROW IN RELIGION, TO RACE AND REPRESENTATION ISSUES?

For comparison, take a look at Roman taxes on, say,  Judea.

Interestingly, Jesus was a friend of any number of tax gatherers for Rome. It is all over the gospels.

THE END OF HISTORY AND THE LAST MAN

A puerile philosophical smokescreen, ab initio?

Why not? It got the job done.

Sanitized the Hegelian tradition for Whig liberals.

THE CLASH OF GLOBALIZATIONS

EACH MAJOR CIVILIZATION DOES OF COURSE HAVE ITS OWN AGENDA, SO TO SPEAK

I am not, however, by turning the same phrase, a Stanley Hoffman, CFR, acolyte, by any means.

He is a globalist Left critic of the globalist Right.

He apparently wrote an article for, guess what, back in 2002.

for Jim Rush

Try TTIP , or TAFTA

You really want to go back to the WTO, under Clinton, to see how the ball has been rolling.

Yet, earlier American trade policy, since the early 20th Century,  was similarly un American, in intent.

(Interestingly, Wikipedia, re TTIP , talks about the EU as 'a Power' vis a vis the US and others.
I don't know how much of a ' standing army '  ( a big bugaboo for colonial Americans) the EU has, but I do not consider it a 'Power', regardless of such military alliances as it may have.
Powers are those entities, great or small,  which have their own resources, in the absence of alliances, or should their alliances otherwise fail. So call the EU a weak meta power.)

GLOBALIZATION WILL TURN OUT TO BE

among other things, the biggest economic bubble the world has seen, by far.

Huntington, end of The Clash, more like the real deal, re possible other things, let's call it, perhaps possible worlds.

Bobbitt, certain passages in Shield, wonderful, erudite accounts, possible worlds, but more a sort of charade, an extended allegorical fairy tale, really.

STEINGART PROBABLY FOULED OUT THE WAR FOR SURVIVAL

of the CFR type organizations, both inside and outside Germany, after The War For Wealth,  'they begged me not to publish this'.

That, TWFW, has not been their story line.

Maybe he was penitent, and then let back in, but on probation.

Why?

There are now no ideological (rather than civilizational) alternatives to globalization, in the West.

For that reason, alone, because the West originally dominated the process of globalization in the modern period, it has long become more a clash of each civilization's globalization with those of every other, a so called war of all against all globalizations.

AMERICAN CULTURE NYT BOOK REVIEW COVER CARTOON ENTITLED SUMMER READING MY SCRIPT BUBBLES

Where is Barry Blitt when you need him?

Here, ' together ', two nyt things, March 23 NYT Magazine story re the 'science' of bi sexuals, and the June Book Review Magazine cartoon cover (the rainbow umbrella above table of contents shows perhaps that the heterosexuality of the cartoon cover is tongue in cheek (Blitt could transform this into something the editors and cartoonists only imply) :

1. "He's hot. I'm ugly, and bi. She thinks I love her. Not."

One of the next shoes to drop, in
America, will doubtless be triad marriage rights.

You're already now, suddenly, on a slippery slope: why then not quad rad, quin tad, bestial, a closely held corporation etc, marital rights?

After all, the Supreme Court has held, in various related decisions, that corporations are persons in some senses, religious and otherwise.

Hobby Lobby only the latest, and not taking into consideration issues of gender, orientation, love, or other potentially conflicting legally binding bonds, apart from religion, among them.

Why not expand so called marital rights along with those of corporations? It's America, after all.

American ' cultural ' jurisprudence is thus on a slippery slope, similar to that of its popular culture, with other areas being pulled into the issue maelstrom, swirling, below.

Thought experiment, re slippery slope. Think tanks do this all the time:

How about, for example voluntary cannibalism? The ostensible meal decides to make a binding contract to be eaten, either for money, or, say, they also start a religion, with this as a tennent? Say they say they are lambs of God?

Under the establishment clause, where does it go, state by state?

The environmentalist lobby might favor it, waste not want not, sustainability, green initiative, frugality, zpg, etc.

RE IF YOU ASK MOST AMERICANS

Text reference: Bailyn wrote a great book on inbound colonial immigration, Voyagers To The West.

Most of them, before 1750, sold as indentured servants, and most of those died before they could get the freedom or acreage they had been promised.

It is a very far cry from how most Americans visualize what their ancestors here were like, and what station in life they had had.

I have only glanced at it so far. Had it on the shelf a long while now.

Allison has a moving lecture, touching on the subject, how most of them died long before the time when they would have acquired freedom from indenture, and large acreage. This was how many early plantations got built up, over many decades, in the 17th Century. The planter owner, whose own ancestor had survived, who bought them, then got their allotment later, added to his or his heir's existing acreage.
