RE MIGRATION AS A SYMPTOM OF GLOBALIZATION
Feryl's comment excerpt below makes some somewhat similar points, connecting immigration with larger market capitalist features of a globalized economy:

How ironic if the modern Left can't grasp that their superficial "pro-immigrant" stance actually is approved of by the very business owners who the Left *used* to detest. A major rise in the minimum wage, strict supervision of employer hiring practices (to ensure compliance with minimum wage laws), and a major tax hike on the wealthy (which would send the message that elites need to be on better behavior, and need to spread the wealth more), these are all things that the modern Left needs to embrace.
