DK POST EXCERPT ON CONSENSUS RADICAL REPUBLICAN RECONSTRUCTION THE ONLY REAL ONE

"It has now become clear to me that the United States has enjoyed only two eras of genuine political consensus in its history: from 1800 to 1824 (although in some respects that consensus persisted into the 1830s), and from about 1941 until about 1968 (although in some respects that consensus lasted at least until the 1980s.)" DK

We never had a day of political consensus here.
Think Cosby's alternate juror:
"We had trouble deciding where to go to lunch!"

It was not part of how we were set up... The times when you think there was political consensus, there was not...

I tell a lie, there was one longish period.....

The only real sustained period of political consensus here was during the unconstitutional terrorist period of the Radical Republican Deconstruction era... the era of the Fifth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments. Things like that. That has been the only real sustained 'consensus' in America, ever. Sorry.

One wonders why Professor Kaiser left this period out. The Republicans got everything they wanted. He talks at length about it in 2011, but somehow he doesn't see it as 'his' consensus. I call that political consensus, the only kind that then existed.
