TO PARAPHRASE SOMETHING SARTRE MIGHT HAVE SAID IN MORE REFINED PROSE

Since the march of liberalism since 1760, we really have jack squat in the West for unifying principles, either within or among states.

The only one to emerge, against the still ongoing liberalism here, really, is a negative one, a Hobbesian one, a principle that cannot say its name under liberalism, the principle of civilizational security and social order in the West, such as it can be made to be, amid a clash of civilizations.
