There seem to be various interpretations one might place on this state of affairs.

If we admit, as DK does, that these really are intra civilizational conflicts between Sunni and Shiite, going on simultaneously, then we are egging on both sides of it. 

Rather like making contributions to both parties....sporting, some no doubt might say.
