This period really typified, instead, the further decline of the West, hardly a path to 'greater prosperity' for the West, except temporarily, and mainly increasingly for the top 1% of the West and the Rest.

'Greater equality' meant in practice, and in the end, not greater prosperity for middle and lower income folks in the West, but rather creeping economic convergence of median and average global incomes, a topic people like Piketty and Professor Kaiser avoid like the plague, for very good obvious reasons.

I THINK ALL COUNTRIES SHOULD ARREST AND IMPRISON ALL OTHER COUNTRIES' CFOS AND CEOS

That suits me just fine, baby!

I especially like the idea of arresting and imprisoning Russian and Indian executives, preferably sending them to prisons in Africa!

Chinese executives, goes without saying!

I should point out, as a rather enormous footnote, that liberal market cap MNCs, which heretofore have flourished in this environment, have been, are being, and will be, gradually dismembered, by various increasingly draconian regimes, on the horizon, in favor of ones which they, quite understandably, can better control.

Those execs or strategists, who might have thot that they, and their evanescent organizations, could gain the 'upper' competitive hand, in the perhaps not-so-market states of the future, may possibly have a surprise.

Maybe I am all wrong about this.

But, then, it doesn't matter that much, given the unfolding situation, either way.

Here's a tip:

Given how things have gone, really since Adam Smith, say 1776, with advice from this narrow dull field, they are increasingly endangered everywhere their advice is closely followed.

There are a lot of good reasons, and good authority, for this: some of them are referred to elsewhere on this blog.

An important, and related, point, for Americans, especially, is that the self interests actuating the invisible hand have been as ineffective and inadequate a model for political policy as a framework for morality.

The gold standard was not new after WWII.

The WTO was created only in 1995, under Clinton.

The United States has never ever had a very tightly regulated banking system.

The Federal Reserve System is in fact a highly unregulated private banking system.

VIOLIN FOIBLES SMELL TEST DIALOGUE

So, you use a smell test to determine whether an old violin is Italian.

Yes.

How do you do that? Do you sniff the violin?

Oh, no! We have trained chimps who can smell a hundred times better than we can!

How do you know when they identify a violin as by a maker?

We let them compare the scent of a known example, and compare it with the scent of the subject violin. When there is a match, they get very excited! You must have seen chimps get excited. It is unmistakeable. If not, they quietly want a chimp treat for having sniffed the violins. We consulted with Jane Goodall on this. D'Attili used to say he could identify a violin at a glance. Maybe this is one better! We also use it as a cross check for dendro!

Dealer: I am sorry, but the violin is not as old as you think it is.

Collector: But, I got a dendrochronology certificate!

Dealer: We get those too, for our violins!

Collector: So what is wrong with my certificate?

Dealer: That is not our violin!

Collector: But you sold it 70 years ago, and then again 50 years ago, with your certificates as by a very well known Italian maker, and made circa 1730!

Dealer: Dendrochronology did not exist back then.

KRUGMAN AND THE DISCIPLINE IN BAD FAITH

There are liberal professional and conservative economists, and professional liberal or conservative economists.

Krugman denies that there are professional liberal economists, only professional conservative ones.

Unfortunately, these are distinctions without a difference.

This is a pathetic attempt at a distinction, and that is the pathos.

Professional liberal economists (the category he denies even exists) sold their integrity, and sold out the American people and the West, long ago.

The professional conservative economists, who have now also done the same, as he asserts (and I fully agree), came very late to the bi partisan economics discipline sell out game.
