THE MENU CATSUP IMPROV

I am just going to touch on a lighter note, after things like road kill cannibalism, things like that....

 

Everybody likes catsup on something. Almost all of it is now put in plastic bottles, and made with high fructose corn syrup...

 

What I am going to suggest is that if you like catsup, and like good catsup, and like a lot of it, it is easy to make your own, and keep it in a glass jar in the fridge for a little while.

 

So, what is a so called catsup recipe? Guess what? You don't really need one!

 

There are countless versions. Read a few label in the grocery to get the idea, or go online. Not really much to it, but the key is to make one you like, and then to refine it, over time, so you like it better. I suggest using tomato paste, add water or some other liquid, vinegar of some kind (some of the leftover pickle juices I have discussed would be a nice touch, in moderation), or kinds, and maybe just dry seasonings. This will lengthen its useful life, kept in the fridge. Put no meat ingredients in it. I am not an advocate of sugar or other sweeteners like say honey, or syrup, in catsup, but suit yourself.  I am not against adding a little prepared steak sauce to catsup, like say certain brands of Worcestershire sauce, Lea & Perrins, but if you get too carried away with additives, other condiments, or too many spices, you get something more like barbecue sauce than catsup.

Then also you can use this catsup as an ingredient to make say thousand island,  Catalina, or casino salad dressing. Shrimp cocktail sauce with horseradish! 

It could also then serve as a base for a more complex barbecue sauce.

An Indian barbecue sauce, or marinade, or both, using in part a home made catsup, would be especially desirable.

He is onto something here.

I am going to take a few steps into the great beyond, and speculate that, were a fascist regime to come to power here, they would no doubt think of the rest of the world as their 

' oyster ' (Sovereignty At Bay theme), in a 'frontier' sort of sense. 

The frontier, after all, is a big thing for Americans; they once had a lot of it to spare, think 'lebensraum'; 

I know it seems far fetched now, but 'human rights' can at some point, be claimed to have failed almost everywhere we are not.

That would not be a very useful way to proceed, but Americans have not been very swift on these things.

Do I have to report a crime?

Let's say I see none. So, I am an amateur. So what. I still see none. Then what?

Let say, hypothetically, it has a note pinned to its chest saying: I have committed suicide, eat me!

Do I have to report a missing person? Maybe so. But why me? They aren't missing to me, they are there in front of me, dead, asking to be eaten!

I don't think so. Report  to whom? What if there is no ID on the corpse? Say I, out of an abundance of caution, search it for ID. So what. So I find ID. Then what?

It seems the NYT just can't figure all this stuff out!

In this article, from back in September, they seem to have been thinking as hard as they can!

Why can't they figure it out? Are they just especially dumb, maybe a little retarded, what?

I will help you out:

What China is doing, and what the other Asian countries have also been trying to do, is contrary to all American, and most all Western liberal ideology since about 1760 at least.

What the Asians have long now been doing queers both American liberal ideology, and American conservative ideology.

That explains their (NYT) confusion. If you're queered, you get disoriented, scared, and you're not really sure which end is up! That is frankly how the NYT editorial board is acting right now....they've been queered by Asia. Thomas Friedman, especially.

Let's just characterize it as a very unpleasant tipping point, pointed at you.

That was in fact how China recently characterized the North Korea versus US confrontation situation: A Tipping Point.

To paraphrase the Chinese point: It is real easy to get queered, by a tipping point, in the wrong place!

Further, once both poles, and especially also the vital center, of your politics have been queered, where do you turn?

Do you become a queer?

That is, perhaps, a better question for American and Western liberal organs like the  NYT , as well as for their conservative, as well as for their left organs, to each ask themselves, while looking in the mirror.

Remember, Nixon had suddenly queered Japan?

They call it the Nixon Shock, 1971, but more or less the same thing!

THE MENU SLOP BORSHT NO RECIPE JUST SAY NO DUNCE PROOF

This is a dish, I won't say a recipe, that you are frankly unlikely to find anywhere else... Maybe I am wrong.

I save the leftover pan juice, roast potatoes, carrots, onion, garlic, pepperoncinis, etc, from roasts: pork, beef, chicken, rabbit, duck, lamb, etc., or such stove top dishes I make.

My family, who don't know any better, refer to this leftover melange as slop. Fair enough.

So, what is the dish? It is a mixture of leftovers, and other things some of you may have on hand.

What is the main ingredient? Slop.

I do various things. This dish today, let's just call it slop borsht.

So, what goes in it? You have to start with the slop.

For slop borsht, I like to have on hand some boiled beet juice from boiled beets, or leftover beet salad, either or both.

I will just say, up front, you don't even have to have the beet juice!

I throw it, however much there is, in a medium sized, preferably enameled or corning type, boiler. 

I then add the slop, once again, however much, or little, there is, it doesn't really matter.... that's why I said it is not really a ' recipe '. 

What next? I know you can't wait.

I buy and keep on hand organic dill pickles. They are even kosher! So, hypothetically, if you use, say, kosher chicken and other all kosher ingredients in the roast, then this Slop Borsht is kosher slop borsht! But, enough of this aside. 

I throw in only the pickle juice, and horde the pickles to eat with sandwiches!

Salt is your enemy in this dish, because this pickle juice is itself very salty, and the slop had had salt added to it, perhaps. For that reason, the best slop for this dish is unsalted slop that you salted only at table with the roast.

The next ingredient makes this dilemma even more apparent. I like to add to slop borsht a goodly amount of organic sauerkraut juice from the jar of kraut you buy in the store. It can be organic, kosher, whatever. 

You otherwise throw this great delicious juice away when the kraut is gone! What better way to use it.

Simmer together and serve.

I am sure East Europeans would be all over this dish, sacrilege, etc. But, hey, there are countless borshts.

Why do I say dunce proof? Maybe you're a cooking dunce... Let's say you blunder, in spite of my warnings, about excess salt. You can't even eat it.

What do you do? A dunce throws the whole pot out.

No. You merely dilute it with water, say by half even, if that salty, freeze much of that in glass jars, and serve it to your guests at your next dinner party. You look like a genius, rather than the dunce you know you are.

This post is dedicated to Randy, hardly a dunce in the kitchen.

In that future, you won't, then, be having nice, jurisprudential, discussions about constitutional transformation, the roles of the branches, war powers, tactics, etc.

Nevertheless, one has to gasp at his, Bobbitt's, talent in open discussion. Just take one example, his answer to a question, and he thinks of the example of Jefferson, and the Louisiana Purchase, which Jefferson thought, quite correctly, was unlawful.

More importantly, in the larger scheme of things, the Purchase violated Jefferson's own ostensible principles....., as well as Constitutional constraints......

When you are thinking about America, uniting as a nation, but also as a rag tag bunch of  anarchic universalist individuals, starting out very much as a veritable but fragile fortress, and only much later strong enough to push against a so called frontier, contrary to what one sees with Brooks' recent editorial story, on which I have already commented below,
