Britain just pulled out of the EU.

Most multi national empires collapsed in the West as a result of WWI. The Austria Empire for example.

The British and French Empires disintegrated more slowly, over somewhat longer into the 20th Century.

The US, by itself, only 250 years old, is now threatening, as Professor Kaiser likes to point out, to disintegrate, as it almost did, I would add, and should have, in 1861.

In the non West, the Russian Empire collapsed, but was not overrun and dismembered, as it should have been, after 1917.

The Japanese Empire collapsed.

The largest Empire ever, the Mongol, which had absorbed numerous other peoples, including both the Chinese and the Russians, collapsed over a long period of time after dynastic partition.

What are the chances of a substantive integration of all global peoples? Zero.

What are the chances of a global federal governance structure? Zero.

TAKE A LOOK AT WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM THE PARTY OF DAVOS MARKET STATES ETC

and its spin off organizations, Global Shapers, etc.,  to see how a shadow globalized governance structure is even now gradually taking shape, behind the scenes, without the knowledge, and almost certainly against the will, of the vast majority of denizens of the globe.

Some globalist trade economic historians (the kind of academicians who gladly advise members of the party of Davos) honestly, and fondly, call the largest, and probably bloodiest and brutal, effort at a global empire so far, that of the Mongols, as a ' Pax Mongolica '.  See Power And Plenty

the Middle East did not disrupt markets. Markets actually liked it too!

David Kaiser has a new post, largely about Trump, so here is a postscript to this post, a propos his post:

But isn't our political system merely a final working out of Adam Smith's rational, enlightenment laissez faire economic and social principles? The system is based on ever-growing profits for rational self interested actors, like Trump, and for the protection of their property rights. There is little ideological check on enormous profits in the Constitution.

Granted we have moved toward monopoly, cartel-like arrangements, but they are not the result of grants from the crown, although our executive has had no small hand in this kind of trend regarding trade arrangements, but rather more from the working out of market forces favoring over time the concentration of wealth in fewer and fewer hands.

He also gets into, re Schwartz' authorship of The Art Of The Deal, what I have called the Drew Pearson Fallacy, regarding the failed role of the press in the edification of its readership, under laissez faire market conditions for printed matter.

The failed role of the press in this regard goes back certainly to ancient Rome and before.  

Regarding the American Rebellion, Bailyn has some choice passages in Ideological Origins regarding free press causes for colonial unrest stirred up by radical pamphleteers, from the late 1600s to 1776 in England and America.

CONSERVATISM HERE MEANS THE HOBBESIAN STATE OF NATURE ANARCHISM

"...solitary, mean, nasty, brutish, and short."

There are well founded grounds for this interpretation, going back to before the founding.

You may say that that is not constitutional conservatism, which after all was representative, and required minimal property qualifications. 

Our constitutional conservatism, in that sense, is really what liberalism has always meant elsewhere.

So, what happened to actual conservatives, conservatives in the sense of conservative at the time of the founding and the American Rebellion?

They were usually called royalists, Whigs or Tories, whether they favored an aristocracy, a monarchy, or both. 

They emigrated and never came back.

There was no successful counterrevolution here, as there was in the rest of Western Civilization, including France, the second pariah state I previously had mentioned.

RUSSIA IS BIG ONLY BECAUSE OF THE MONGOLS

• Moscow rose to prominence during the Mongol Tatar yoke, some time after Russian rulers were accorded the status of tax collectors for the Mongols. The fact that the Russians collected tribute and taxes for the Mongols meant that the Mongols themselves would rarely visit the lands that they owned. The Russians eventually gained military power, and their ruler Ivan III overthrew the Mongols completely to form the Russian Tsardom. After the Great stand on the Ugra River proved the Mongols vulnerable, the Grand Duke of Moscow gained independence.

that saved American institutions, not 'ability to come together and embark upon a great enterprise to solve a critical problem' (DK), which we never had, but these:

1. Luck in timing
2. Favorable remote North American geography
3. Remaining, but waning, western civilizational dominance momentum
4. Western civilization political and religious decline and crisis 
5. Great power rivalry
6. Unheard of new natural resource, and manpower, opportunities, manpower including relatively open immigration, substantial indentured servitude, and ample slavery 
7. Great power allies
8. Weak alien civilizational rivals
9. Alien civilization on alien civilization poverty, rivalry, conflict, disease, and war.

Americans, including Professor Kaiser, tend to think that they are in a dominant global position because of things they themselves, more or less alone, or at least in the lead, have done. 

Nothing, believe me, could be further from the truth.

AMERICANS THINK THEIR POLITICAL PARTIES SOMEHOW ARE PART OF THE GOVERNMENT

This has never been true. They are really in the nature of private, multinational, even multi civilizational,  corporations, in their interests, funding, and goals. 

They are regulated to some extent by government, just as private corporations are.

The last thing they care about, really, is the average American.
