RE ISRAEL PALESTINE AND THE US
Re Modern Israel's aspirations, in the Middle East and elsewhere, one has to point out that the ancient Kingdom of Israel never really was what it was always thought to be.
See, for example, The Bible Unearthed.
An earlier good book, Who Wrote The Bible?

MAHATMA GANDHI OSAMA BIN LADEN HINDU MUSLIM INSURGENTS SHARED VALUES HUMAN RIGHTS HUNTINGTON ETC
What do they have, very much, in common?
They each, very effectively, used Western Civilization's institutions themselves, against the West itself.

PRESIDENT OBAMA'S PRESIDENCY NOT QUITE AS DIVISIVE
as, say, Lincoln's.
Not because of Obama's policies, but rather of what he symbolizes.
"Obama's presence in the White House has simply wiped out the Democratic Party not only in the old Confederacy, but in the border states, except Maryland and Delaware, as well." DK

RE ASYLUM SEEKERS
Why block non English speaking asylum seeking hostile civilizationals,
while nevertheless allowing a hostile civilizational core state, China, to more or less take over the Australian economy?

RE FASHION WEEK THE MENU
For Larry, a talented gourmand, polymath, and physician, who studied in New Orleans, and who, sadly, has passed;
and Randy, a gourmand, academician, and more, who, as far as I know has not.
A literary and culinary reference, for these two topics:
A Confederacy Of Dunces
Also, re the menu, I will never forget the lesson, in the kitchen, on cooking a steak, at the first restaurant back then in New Orleans, given by Vontel, 1971.
New Orleans, you know, has been known for Cajun and creole cuisine, but not so much for steak houses.

RE DK POST AND THE MEDIA
"Professor
Great post.
Re the media, see my blog, terms search Lorch.
That has been how it has been, the order of the day, since the 18th century.
Even more overtly ideologically oriented media have been the order of the day since Lorch wrote.
Quigley chronicles European media, British especially, "The Anglo American Establishment".
all the best"
The important stories, are, of course, those that weren't published, then or now, those (not published) explaining why certain other possible articles were published instead, and (why) others were not published at all.
The most important material, then and now is not available to the press, for a variety of reasons, good and bad.

MIGHT START READING THIS AT SOME POINT
http://www.carrollquigley.net/pdf/Public_Administration_Napoleonic_Kingdom_Italy-Carroll_Quigley.pdf
a propos DK's current post
Most advanced states, heretofore, for various reasons, needed world trade, often as part of a strategic position emanating out of conflicts within Europe, within western civilization. They also needed banker participation in trade ventures related to international investments and security.
Those advanced states, which needed world trade more than other advanced states, are more likely to end up in some aggressor posture, of one kind or another, than those few, or unique, states which do not.
Certainly they found, in most cases, that they needed investment banker participation to prosper.
The United States, on the other hand, did not, for a variety of reasons.
I can cite authorities for this if need be.

RE ECONOMIC DIPLOMACY AND THE ORIGINS OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR
I ordered a copy of the book...
I am curious to see how his account corresponds with Tragedy and Hope, especially chapters like 'XI Changing Economic Patterns', 'XII The Policy Of Appeasement 1931-1936'...
Quigley cites authorities in the book, but they are often not specific references, in particular works, on particular points; those are exceptions which do exist, sprinkled throughout the text itself. He does not do 'footnotes'.
