RE OUR OVERLY LAISSEZ FAIRE POST WWII OPEN SYSTEM AND IT THREATS ETC

re US accuses China:

You could see this coming a mile away, back in the 70s.

Nothing we could do about it, structurally.

Plenty of knowledgeable people warned about it....

Smell the coffee.

Game over.

This has been a fool's paradise for some little time now, but coming to an abrupt end soon. Think, Kerry in Moscow.......

Never, in the field of human conflict, has so much been given away to so many, by so few, for so little, so quickly. You can quote me.

We have had some similar blinders.

Most countries do.

RE COMMAGER'S ABRIDGEMENT OF MARLBOROUGH

Have a sense that the abridgement is a mistake to read.......

I had a change of heart, as the unabridged volumes are too bulky to hold for long!

re CHINA INDIA MEETING OVER BORDERS IN THE MOUNTAINS

China's borders are what they say they are, no doubt.

THE GLOBALIST LIBERAL MAVERICK AS BENEFACTOR

Think Gates Foundation.

Also think, Lauren Bush Lauren. Says it all.

These kinds of initiatives, paraphrasing W,  are 'right for all people everywhere'.

RE TREASURY WWII

I thought it was particularly special, how Treasury, Morgenthau etc,  got for the Soviets a duplicate set of mark occupation plates for their use, at the end of the war.  Special quantitative easing, over there.

This is from Beschloss' The Conquerors , see p 152, 153 and fn.2.

RE SMOKING TAX TO AID DUPED INVESTORS BBC

Apparently, there are plenty of private, and political, entrepreneurs there in India.

Randall Collins blog

He has pointed out certain features of mass killers. They usually have a backstage arsenal, similar perhaps to that in Boston recently;

although  a mass killer and a so called terrorist probably differ significantly, analytically.

It is a long article, for the attention challenged modern psyche:

MORGENTHAU OR PATTON

Fairly cut and dried, really.

for my numerous Russian guests

Why shouldn't we have bestowed the bounties of federalism onto the USSR, after WWI?

It would not have been that hard to do.

Dividing it into at least three separate monarchies seems, in retrospect, to have made much more sense than to allow it to lumber forward as a Stalinist land mass behemoth regime, as it did.

I will go into Patton's wise suggestions for Russia after WWII  on another day.

Australian government is investing in Chinese bonds

Not a good sign, going forward.......

Very predictable, though, given all the Chinese buying of Australian natural resources..........

what choice did they have?

As Mary Poppins complained, leverage a problem.

JAPAN WARNS OVER ISLAND LANDINGS

Now you're talking.

You only live twice.

this was fun back then

this was a catchy cartoon mise en scene

RE BBC NEWS DEPORTING ONE RADICAL MUSLIM CLERIC

Why not make a package deal?

That might ensure the gradual withering away of a Muslim ' presence ' in the UK.

Their numbers there are, after all, huge.

the menu French toast Romano for Gigi

I think of Italian dishes as ' for Gigi ':

This is ' French Toast Romano ',

rather like eggplant parmesan........

sprinkle grated pecorino Romano onto bacon fat fried french toast.

Muir Glen garlic roasted garlic sauce to cover.

Bake at 350 for 15 minutes.

re Michael Lewis

Would be fun if he were to delve into the underlying causes of the wild whacky swing down in gold recently.

He could train his analytic eye onto the currency angle, which, to my knowledge, he has not looked at much, in print at least.
