re RUN UP TO WWIII ALREADY UNDER WAY EVERYWHERE
Long time coming, but not that long really.
Unfortunately, in this long term and low grade tending conflict,
no clear ideological or civilizational ideals have, or will, emerge.

re Keystone XL all that oil going to China
American political economic strategic policy
very weak and fragmented.
At least the West had the sense to see the Middle East as of some use, early to mid 20th Century.

RE EGYPT DEFIES US NYT TODAY
Remember, some months ago, a US general spoke on US radio,
about the trustworthiness of the Egyptian military command, which had largely been trained by the US military?

RE THE STATE OF THE UNION
The rhetoric re economic nationalism was pure rhetoric.
We have seen it so often from Democratic Presidents, whose foreign policy agendas have usually closely mirrored Republican Presidents' as well.
Nixon at least acted sometimes as if he had economic nationalistic instincts,
but then he opened the door to China even after Japan had cleaned industrial and technological house here.
Ironically, the Republicans used to be the economic nationalists, until taken over by larger interests even than previously.

re Iran cutting off oil to Europe
Not that surprising.
Other similar ploys are under way.
China buying London's water and sewer securities........
Etc.
Similar things go on here, sometimes even at the local level,
and quietly.

For Utka
Trying to wean some from the top 40 is like trying to teach a pig to sing.
The saying goes:
Never try to teach a pig to sing.
It wastes your time,
and it annoys the pig.
