LETS JUST GO AHEAD AND MAKE THIS OBVIOUS, ENORMOUS, BUT UNIVERSALLY OVERLOOKED POINT RE JFK

Why did the so called super liberal Kennedys, once in power, then, suddenly so to speak, attack labor, their ostensible main constituents, and especially attacked organized labor, in the first place?

You may say they were trying to root out corruption so that all lower to middle class workers could get a square, if not a new, or fair, deal.

That is almost certainly not the reason.

To the American middle and working class: "Ask not what your country can do for you.  Ask what you can do for your country."

What an incredible betrayer hypocrite.
Cf DK re Wilson and Du Bois

DK QUOTE

"...That is part of the price of citizenship in a democracy, which by definition forces us to work within the whole society in which we live, and ultimately dooms any attempt to recast society according to a particular Utopian vision...."

I will talk About utopianism perhaps tomorrow.

AMERICA'S VIEW RE WESTERN CIVILIZATION GREAT POWERS BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER WWI

Thursday, November 20, 2014

SIR MICHAEL HOWARD THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR WESTERN CIVILIZATION WAS REALLY AROUND 1776

The coup de grace was 1945:

"...The citizens of the United States had not joined in the Second World War to prop up a system of imperial domination against which they had been the first people to revolt...." Sir Michael Howard

I would just add (2015 repost and this edit), for emphasis, they had not joined in the First World War to prop up a system of imperial domination against which they had been the first people to revolt, either

That had, after all, been why Wilson, and his staff, including especially his Secretary of State, were at first so thrilled with the Russian Revolution......

The universal empire of Western Civilization was, in Quigley's terminology, the British Empire, after 1763, not the Napoleonic, briefly, thereafter.

RE DK TWO VIEWS

"What is at stake here, it seems to me, are two views of American history.  The first--which has become more and more fashionable over the last half century--holds that American history has been hopelessly blighted by racism since colonial times, and that attempts to expunge the legacy of racism must take precedence over every other priority in our national life, and determine our attitudes towards the past.  But a second view emphasizes the contradictions in American history and sees our past and our present as one long attempt to overcome them. "

Of course, there are other views.......

RE DK SITE RE WILSON NAACP

Here is another example, from DK site, and his current post, of a classic presidential betrayer:

"In 1912 he managed to conceal this sufficiently during his campaign for President and secured the active support of the young NAACP, led by W. E. B. DuBois."

RE THE CRISIS OF AMERICAN POLITICS DK

While I think this is a wonderful post, he does make it seem that this last 40 years is somehow something qualitatively different, and something beyond, the badness of American politics which had gone before.

With this I disagree.  American politics has always been quite bad in ways more or less like this, for different and quite long standing reasons.

In addition to speculating that American politics has recently gotten even worse, one might, as well, inquire regarding ways in which, if any, it has, ever, gotten better.

If there were times, say under certain Presidential administrations (an inherently wrong criterion, in my judgment), where that seemed to be the case, was that impression illusory, or ultimately erroneous?

For example, take what I call The Lincoln Fallacy.

Britain had already had a much better solution, for the problem of slavery, than we did.

Read about it some time.

TORN COUNTRIES

Russia, Mexico, Turkey, etc.

Re Russia, think for example of the Crimean Tartars.
This is one reason why I said it should have been broken up.

Huntington talked about it being torn since Peter The Great. The Clash.

It seems to me that it has been torn, both as a result of, and after the break up of, the Mongol Empire, long before Peter. "Scratch a Russian and you wound a Tartar." De Maistre

RE POLITICS AND DIPLOMACY

I am going to posit some new concepts.

I will say at the outset that they cannot work under the present systems.

DK had a somewhat analogous, whimsical, notion:

"There is an obvious, though unlikely, solution to the situation in the House: the election of a new Speaker by a coalition of moderate Republicans and Democrats, together with an agreement to keep funding the government at current levels, forget about Obamacare and immigration, and leave Planned Parenthood on its own.  That would be the equivalent of a Parliamentary National Government, such as Britain formed in each of the two world wars.  It would definitely isolate the anti-government revolutionaries, and it would also force some Republican presidential candidates, in all probability, to support the deal.  I do not expect it, but I I thought I would put it forward to introduce a ray of hope into perhaps the most hopeless American political moment that I have ever lived through in 68 years." DK, my underlining

OUR FOUNDING FATHERS

did not want a crown.

They had no truck with an aristocracy.

They most emphatically did not even want a relatively strong Prime Minister, ever.

What they really wanted, sad to say, was really a kind of wimp. I mean this not in a militancy sense, but rather a political sense.

As a result, most often in US history, that is what we have gotten.

DK CURRENT POST INTERESTING PASSAGE

"The Administration's decision not to try to break up the big banks or prosecute any of their executives allowed the Tea Party, not the Democratic Party, to mobilize all the anger abroad in the land.  Obama, who months ago told David Remnick that he did not think a President could change the direction of the country--and that that was "a good thing"--has left the field clear for others to try to do so."

Is breaking up the banks any longer even feasible, under a banking system now left in place, and so deeply entrenched, for so many decades?

What is the role of a President under the constitution?  It was a somewhat weak and somewhat unbalanced one.

It would have been unthinkable for the founders to have imagined that a President should try singlehandedly to change the direction of the country.

Thus, I believe, about this, Obama is quite right, and adverting to the Presidential 'excesses' of Lincoln, or FDR, Nixon, for instance, Lyndon Johnson perhaps, Bush One or Bush Two, or even Jefferson re the Louisiana Purchase (not that the purchase was not a good thing to have done), as constitutional aberrations of a weak branch within a weak system.

DK current post

"They got something else too: a change to the mission of higher education. In response to the protests, colleges in the 1970s decided that their mission was not simply to study and teach about the world around them, but to create an environment free of racism, sexism and homophobia, and to promote of certain ideas of justice and progress." DK

What is justice outside a civilizational religious context?

What is 'progress', really?

Is it merely economic liberalism?

Does it flatly contradict sustainability?

Does progress imply, in part, limitless population growth? Whose population?

RE TERRORIST ATTACKS WMD AND THE HOBBLED NATION STATE

The modern hobbled nation state can deal with terrorist attacks, in general, scarcely better, if any, than with WMD.

This was a point, in different words, but much the same meaning,  re WMD, actually made by Bobbitt in Shield.

BEN GEE

"When China replace the US as the #1 economy, that will be the time for the Yuan to look for equal status with the $. IMF think that day will come be 2027.

Whether that day will be 2025, 2027, or 2032, it will be much less important to China than the US.

Remember, when the Chinese GDP equal that of the US, Chinese income per capita will only be 25% of the US. Chinas plan is well beyond that.
China hope someday, Chinese GDP per capita will be at least 50% of the US. That would make Chinese GDP 2X that of the US."

double crosser ethics 101

If a Presidential candidate can use the mob to get elected, why can't the CIA also use them to help kill Castro?

Fair is fair.

Extra credit:

Ragano said Santo bragged about double crossing the CIA re killing Castro, and kept the money.

Extra credit question: Who was the bigger double crosser, if any, Santo re the CIA, or Kennedy re the mob?

Double extra credit question: Why?

Triple extra credit: If neither was bigger, why not?

Quadruple extra credit: Does it matter if one double cross precedes in time, and causes another double cross?

Quintuple: Does one double cross justify an answering double cross?

Sextuple: Why, or why not?

RE KENNEDYS DOUBLE CROSSERS

For those who cannot see how this might have been, there have been some recent articles about mob connections, going back to Joe.

Also, Ragano's discussion of Giancana's remarks at Capra's, p 218 is rather illuminating. Maybe Ragano made it all up. I rather doubt it.

See also the account in Real Lace.

David Kaiser has written a very detailed book. I have only started it. It is long.

RE DK PRAISE AND BLAME ELECTION CYCLES

The main point to make here, of course, is that invariably praise or blame cannot be associated validly to a particular incumbent for economic or even social trends occurring during the period of the office held, state, federal, or local. LET ME PAINT YOU A DARKER SCENARIO

Big debate here, now, over Mexican penetration of the US. Big issue. Mexico is a non Western civilization country, believe it or not.

Let's suppose, in spite of all evidence to the contrary, and assuming the very unlikely event that the US stayed neutral in such a scenario, that Russia gets tired of its erstwhile ally, China's, gross illegal population penetration of Siberia, and they end up in a shooting war over the issue.

Say, eventually, a Syria like refugee situation emerges, but on an enormously larger scale, with say 20 million Chinese refugees displaced from northern China by Russian action there to foreclose further unchecked Chinese penetration of Siberia. China, Russia, and others, start offshoring them.

How many Chinese refugees, from this conflict, do you want places like California, New York, Europe, Australia, etc., to take?

How many Russians?

We here say 'never too many new blood individuals'.

TAKE A LOOK IN THE MIRROR

When Chinese leaders advise Chinese expats and those living abroad temporarily, and ethnic Chinese everywhere, to take a look in the mirror, and try to influence their behavior accordingly, American human rights hawks would say that is sort of a proto human rights violation.

RE MAFIA KENNEDY CONNECTIONS

See interview w G Robert Blakey.

Sometimes the truth takes a long time to come out, if ever.

Also see National Geographic article, 2013.

Ragano's book is also required reading.

As a new business lawyer associate, my boss gave me an office next to Ragano's, 1984. Comical really. I had zero interest in organized crime, being mainly interested in civil litigation and trial work. I didn't even know, frankly, how notorious Ragano was. Of course I knew he represented underworld figures. My boss said he rented him an office because he felt sorry for him. I never had a significant conversation with him, but was polite in the building when we passed in the hall or lobby.

RE HUNTINGTON CORROLLARY

Because our constitution now promotes and or requires race, ethnicity, national origin, and religion blindness, we are not even in a position, politically, to address our own or other civilizations' legitimate concerns for such distinctions generally except to deny their validity.

DK ILLUMINATING PASSAGE

"When Communism fell in 1990, as I have noted repeatedly here, the US assumed that our values and our influence were now supreme,. Others felt differently.  Both the Chinese and Russian governments have repeatedly made clear that they do not accept this view, and that they are especially opposed to the idea that the world has a right to depose authoritarian governments on the grounds of human rights violations.  Ironically, in so doing, they, not we, are standing up for the original principles of the UN, which was based, as it had to be, on respect for national sovereignty.  Putin has spoken repeatedly and tellingly about the weaknesses in the U.S. world view.  Last year, he decided to show us that we could not simply promote a pro-western government in Ukraine, annexing the Crimea and starting a border war.  Now he has taken another huge step: adapting American principles for his own purposes in Syria...." DK

See my prior post  and my comment below, re Ed Boyle's rant:

"....take a look at our constitution. It abhors nation states, monarchies, imperial powers, colonial power, and regional power. The only kind of society it envisions, politically, is that of yoeman farmers, small merchants, tradesmen, and the learned professions and clergy. It did not like the plantation system or slavery, but started out stuck with them, from Virginia on down. It did not like the idea of cities, even though that is where most of the colonial political power had come to lie, but was stuck with them too."
