re austerity italian style Krugman nyt

He criticizes Italian austerity,

but as I have said so often, Keynesianism stimulation doesn't on the other hand work so well for the globalized gobblelized:

'Stimulus' gets sucked out of the 'erstwhile' domestic economy (no such thing, that much, anymore) like an egg

by developmental weasels, and MNCS, plying that trade.

re Japan China and us

Curious Americans might well wonder how it came about,
that we can confirm a military alliance with the former
against the latter, while at the same time having much of our debt held by, and much of our manufacturing done in, the latter? It is a long and sad story. See this blog for details.

George Kennan, Chalmers Johnson, Prestowitz, Van Wolferen, Thurow, Kindleberger, Friedman and LaBard, Gabor Steingart, Raymond Vernon; these are some authors to consult.

RE THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS

She, Pauline Maier,  fleshes out some of this history rather well.
Few Americans care about the actual history.

RE NO BUY AND HOLD ANY LONGER

All 'investments' are now short term.

Gambling.

The underlying fact is all assets now really are short term.

There are no long term assets anymore.

But probably not, by itself.

Other factors will come to the fore, in concert.

RE NYT HACK WAR CHINA ARMY UNIT

This, to me, was the most comical, and ridiculous,
part of the article, so far:

"The United States government is planning to begin a more aggressive defense against Chinese hacking groups, starting on Tuesday."

Yesterday, 'Tuesday', a little too late, my friends.

About 5 decades too late at least.

As I have said here so often,

smell the coffee, game over.

RE RECENT NOTICE OF CYBER THEFT SYMPTOM OF THE LARGEST MOST DISASTEROUS RECKLESS SHIFT IN GEOPOLITICAL POWER IN HISTORY

It went almost unnoticed over here for decades.

We have been more or less giving this stuff, and on the ground know how, away for 6 + decades now, for that good short term profitability.
What's all the to do, now,
with a little large scale cyber theft, to boot?
Just good ole large scale private capitalism working itself toward wholesome equilibrium?

Not. Just a belated footnote to:
Term search, my paraphrase of Churchill's remark re the RAF:

' never in the history of human conflict has so much been given away, to so many, by so few, for so little, so quickly. '

It is easy to poo poo economic nationalism, or, say, a more modern form of mercantilism or something, nation statism, what you will, until one realizes that the alternative, in the long run, is Schumpeterian like destruction of your nation state and almost all others in the wake of some outcome or another of globalization and developmental nationalism, now coming into view.

As many people have pointed out, Wallerstein more recently and broadly, certain once great imperial centers are now semi pheripheral areas, notably Madrid Spain, Rome Italy, Athens Greece, Cairo Egypt, Istanbul Turkey, etc., etc.;

once great capitalist trading cities, Amsterdam, Genoa, Venice, Cadiz, Lisbon, Cairo, Constantinople, Baghdad, not peripheries but also not commercial empires either anymore.

RE CHRISTOPHER HUGHES CHINA JAPAN

Why are all these super powerful regimes so de legitimized?

Why is ours, and Europe's, also so weak and delegitimized?

Why are they turning to nationalism?

Because liberal and conservative and communist globalism have all failed.

They all need a little exercise over there.....

This no doubt helps China make its case with Japan.

Russia needs to exercise its muscles somewhere.  Asia has not been its strong point.

Maybe they need to relive the Russo Japanese War, 1905.

RE STANDARD & POOR'S SUIT

What a pathetic showing.

As everyone knows, these were relatively poorly paid, quant grunts, on Wall Street, at the beck and call of the houses.

I actually interviewed for an analyst job, back in 79 or 80.

It was considered a slippery stepping stone, at best.

Only the average American,

in the relative total darkness of global market capitalism now,

will think this is a form of retribution for anything.

Michael Lewis' books flesh this fact out rather well.

Both Liar's Poker and Moneyball.

Cynical in the extreme, given S & P's serfdom position on Wall Street.

THE RISE OF CHINA IS THE WAGES OF SIN NOT ONLY FOR US BUT ALSO FOR JAPAN

CHINA ATTACKS NYT LAZY FAIR BBC

A private, merchantile, matter shall we say:

"When you see the same group steal data on Chinese dissidents and Tibetan activists, then attack an aerospace company, it starts to push you in the right direction,"

I say: bring a civil suit, what?
